THE WALKING DEAD Composer Teases Season Three's Theme For An Iconic Location

The finale of The Walking Dead was a perfect example of a show using its score to emphasise the action and drama. Well, according to composer Bear McCreary, we may have already heard a hint of the music which will accompany a location from the comics in season three.

Talking to MTV Splash Page, The Walking Dead's composer Bear McCreary has let slip some new details on what we can expect from season three. Specifically, the theme which will be associated with the location revealed in the last few seconds of last Sunday's finale: the prison. "Fans who have seen the season finale, have heard a little hint of what could become the prison theme. There’s this rhythmic idea in the bass and the low strings. It’s almost like a jackhammer. I mean, it’s so aggressive and mean and powerful. And it’s kind of subtle here, and it builds up. And as I wrote it, I kind of thought, I could bring this back, you know?"

Talk then turned to how he plans on keeping season three's score feeling fresh without repeating anything which we've already heard. Thankfully, this new location will give McCreary the perfect opportunity to do just that. "There’s something really powerful there that could become, sort of like a heartbeat-like theme for this location, which is kind of similar to what I had in mind when I read the comics years ago when I first got there. I had been thinking about it, there’s so many great prison shows and movies and there are certain sounds you kind of associate with it, and I don’t want to do that. But, we’ll see. I mean it really depends on where they take the show. It’s a little early to think about it, but I’m definitely thinking about it anyway."

Sweet, I love the last theme, thought it did get redundant, even though I get all giddy when the opening scene leads into it.
they could just use the theme from S1 Ep2, the Hand, it's very 28 days/weeks later-ish. But hell, I'm always down for a new theme, except for EMH, that season 1 theme is boss!

Whoo hoo!! I have't read the comics and I JUST now realized all the plot potential. I'm assuming this Governor will be reigning over the prison. So I'm guessing many characters will be locked up and tortured. I just don't know how the zombies will be a factor considering the prison is fenced in.
Also, I wonder what will happen when Michonne and Andrea show up!

Rick has changed so much since the beginning, it took killing his best friend to finally realize he can't trust anyone anymore and he'll say and do anything to keep everyone alive. "this is no longer a democracy!" you sound just like my government ^_^

Avalanche OH, my bad, I just re-watched all 19 episodes last night, they're all blending together, Better Angels was this. The End of Innocence, most likely a variation of TWD's theme, seeing as how I can't find a full version.
