The season 6 finale of The Walking Dead left fans on a very divisive cliffhanger, but there are probably some people wishing they could go back to the ambiguity of a bleeding camera after witnessing the shocking brutality of display in tonight's season 7 opener.

It turns out the rumors about Negan dispatching more than one of Rick's crew were on the money, as the sadistic SOB introduced both Abraham and Glenn to Lucille. The latter's death, in particular, mirrored the comic books for sheer gruesomeness, and will surely be difficult to shake from viewers' minds.

Next week, we catch up with Carol and Morgan in The Kingdom, and you can check out a clip for the episode below. Have a look, then be sure to share your thoughts on tonight's season premiere in the usual place.

Watched out of keen interest and the fact that my roommate watches. Havent watched consistently since season 4.

I've got to say....that was BRUTAL TV. HEARTBREAKING TV.

But it was so nihilistic in a way that it was depressing.

No one has suffered like Maggie. She has no family left. None.
