While we'll see him on our silver screens this October, reprising his role as Heimdall in the upcoming
Thor sequel
THOR: RAGNAROK, Idris Elba is set to soon grace our television screens: stepping into his acclaimed role once more as DCI John Luther in the BBC's critical hit series
LUTHER.
Last on our television sets back in 2015 in a two part television event, there have since been sporadic talks of a
LUTHER film to continue the story of the on edge, hard nosed hunter of serial killers that is John Luther but no such film materialised. Instead today it was revealed the show will return in a new 4 episode season on the BBC set to start filming early next year.
Co-creator and writer Neil Cross said: "It's a question Idris and I get asked a lot. What happened to John Luther after we last saw him striding unbowed through the streets of his city, his blood red London?"
"It can't be over, can it? There's so much we don't know. So much unfinished business. The thing is, we've been asking ourselves the same question.
"In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they'd like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that's what we're going to do. We're going to find out what happens next."
Anyone who has seen the show knows how consistently terrific and terrifying it is, brilliantly written and acted with the best depiction of serial killers in any medium -- very rarely are there broad strokes with the twisted characters that Cross creates and while there's no word yet on which other, if any cast members will be returning, this will surely be a TV event to look forward to.
LUTHER season 5 is set to hit the BBC sometime in 2018.
