This week's "Fundamentals" episode of Arrow was one of the best episodes of the show's entire sixth season. The episode featured a strong performance from Stephen Amell as Oliver experienced a myriad of Vertigo-induced hallucinations, led by the surprise return of fan favorite villain Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra), a.k.a. Prometheus.

During "Fundamentals," Amell was live tweeting to share some thoughts on the episode and how it came together. He noted that the early scene between Oliver and Diggle was initially longer but was shortened in the editing room, resulting in an adjustment of the dialogue; though he preferred the original scene, he did say accuracy was important.  He did also specify that all of the police officers Oliver took down in his epic infiltration of the police department were unconscious.

In an episode with a heavy focus on hallucinations, Amell noted they had to break down almost every scene because they were dealing with Oliver's subconscious, a process that was exhausting and made Amell feel "itchy." The hallucinations forced Oliver to come to grips with his life as the Green Arrow, and Amell touched on the fact that Oliver can never seem to get a break:

Amell was however excited to work with Paul Blackthorne in the episode, calling it a rare but terrific moment for Oliver to share an extended scene with Quentin: "Lie detector in S1, Van in S3, Apartment in S4... always love it!" In reference to Oliver accidentally destroying William's science project, Amell joked "bottom line: Oliver can only see that Flash backpack so many times." Overall, Amell seemed very proud of "Fundamentals" and congratulated the episode's director while also hilariously thanking Josh Segarra for his guest appearance:

Amell also took to Instagram after the episode aired to chat with fans before he had to return to the set of Arrow and continue filming. He stated that it was a very big challenge to shoot "Fundamentals," and noted that the Oliver-centric episode “mirrors an episode in which I have less screen time than EVER," which he described as feeling peculiar. Amell is presumably talking about next week's episode "The Dragon" which will focus on Ricardo Diaz.

More importantly though, Amell was asked what we can expect in season 7 and joked that this assumes Oliver survives the season finale. Amell then shared that "I think you can expect a different hairstyle from Oliver. All around, different hairstyle," motioning all over his head and face.

Could Amell be hinting that we will see Oliver receive his classic comic book goatee? Amell has previously promised that the iconic goatee would appear on Arrow in the future before the series ends. If fans remember, Oliver did actually sport a version of his goatee in the great Legends of Tomorrow season 1 episode, "Star City 2046," where Amell portrayed a weathered, battle hardened version of his character from a dark future. Season 7 would be a perfect time for Oliver to receive an upgrade in the facial hair department, albeit with less gray.

Be sure to share your thoughts below on Amell's insight into "Fundamentals" and hints at what we may see from Oliver in Arrow's seventh season!

I think I may know the season 6 ending. With this information that the classic hairstyle will make its way onto the show, I feel like season 6 will end with a significant time jump and all of season 7 will take place in the future. Which WOULD be an unconventional way to end a season.

@GAThrawnIGF - that's a good theory. If they time jump, it could also allow them to do some flashbacks to the "present"...

I swear, if it weren't for this site I would totally forget about this shows existence.

@BootyPeep - Pretty much, since I dropped the series during season four.

@PrimitiveMan - Do yourself a favour and watch season 5. Just season 5... it's up there with season 2. I really stopped watching after they killed off Laurel in Season 4, but after the announcements they made about season 5, I gave them a second chance... and it was worth it

That Ep really upped the quality of the show again

@Buckster10 - It, along with the two Deathstroke episodes in the Fall are probably the best episodes from this season.

I doubt it'll happen, but I'd like to see Huntress and Katana return in the next season. If not coming back to Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow would be a great place for them to show up.

HeavyMetal4Life - 4/14/2018, 4:32 PM
@BlackIceJoe - I don't think we will ever see Katana again, but Huntress is a character the showrunner(s) have said they would like to see again. Plus, the Bertinelli family HAS been featured this season, so...

@HeavyMetal4Life - I know what you're talking about with Katana, but now with Black Lightning existing in the Arrowverse, even though it isn't the same universe two of the members of the Outsiders have been shown, so it'd be nice to see that team up.

HeavyMetal4Life - 4/14/2018, 5:09 PM
@BlackIceJoe - Fair enough, it would be nice. There's a number of characters I'd like to see show up again: Huntress, Deathstroke, Ragman, even Malcolm.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I have wanted Shado sister since season 3. Huntress is high on my list as well. Shado sister was actually my hope for Prometheus, yet I knew the body type was wrong.

Josh Segarra was the best thing of the episode. I think if they had come up with a way to keep him around as a ghost that is always trying to mess with Oliver I could've bought a bit more better the decontruction of his entire surroundings and of his circle of trust.

Even if it'd hit too close home to the last Season of Jessica Jones.

I hope Stephen Amell live tweets as well in the finale because the showrunner is hyping it. I'm approaching it with some doubt but I'll share what he said in any case.

“It’s gonna be interesting, It’s very, you know, I’ve been saying it’s an unconventional kind of finale. It still feels very much like a season finale. When I first started talking about it we hadn’t written the darn thing yet, but now we’ve written it and we’re in prep on it and on Monday we start shooting. And it’s a real game-changer.”

fell off this show a while ago but still like the character of green arrow. I wonder if he will ever see the big screen

@Pitydafool - I'm the same. Really love the character.

The Lemire run really made me love the character. I would love to see that run adapted some way, somehow.

@BlackBeltJones - My main thing I love about the guy is he has an opinion on everything and sometimes it ain't popular. He ain't afraid to call anybody out.

I don't know how he fits in this current DCEU but he is prolly a top 10 hero for DC in terms of popularity
GhostDog

@Pitydafool - he's a very politically outspoken charatcer and its really cool. He has an opinion about everything.

He's a very no bullshit kinda guy.

@BlackBeltJones - Spent the past hour of my like thinking how you could bring him in.

I think a Tower of Bable JL movie and Batman needs to get some new heroes to help him fix issues and save the original leaguers. GA could call Batman out on creating such mess etc.

yeah that would do for me

If he's not Green Arrow then wtf does it matter?
