Obviously I am not going to be the only one on the site that is a tad bit annoyed today when it comes to promised content not being on Netflix. Let me begin by saying I am not FILLED with fanboy rage over this ...but I do feel the need to vent a little bit about WB, Netflix, and Internet Journalists for just a tad as I am a firm believer in checks and balances from ALL sources. My complaint is not on one of those entities but on all three of them combined. If only one of them messed up I would not be as annoyed as I am with all of them taking part in a bit of false advertising. Enough beating around the bush, let me get to my issue here.
For at least a month it was advertised that Arrow Season 2 would be premiering today on Netflix; and for at least a month I had been VERY excited to finally experience this season. I actually have been looking forward to this since so much positive feedback on the series began after a few weeks of season 2 began airing on the WB. Obviously, since I was late to the party, I decided that I would wait until all of them were streaming on Netflix. I know boo hoo, I purposely chose to invest in A.O.S, How I Met Your Mother, and other dissapointing shows (and many NOT SO dissapointing shows such as Parks and Rec, Walking Dead, and Community). And yes, you can probably file this under white people problems but I am still upset but the incompetence displayed by the parties involved here. Suffice to say that on the day that the show I have been told was awesome was supposed to come out, it was not released on Netflix; the show that has been listed for a month to begin streaming today is not streamin when promised.
There has been no official word on this but many speculate that this is because the DVD's do not release until Tuesday.
Wait, what?
I always thought it was a given that DVD's and Blu-Rays release first and then they get added to netflix a few weeks or months later. And that is acceptable and expected. But then why in the world was it promoted that Arrow Season 2 would be added to Netflix two days before the DVD release? Who was not paying attention here? The distribution company or Netflix? If you KNOW the DVD is going to be out on a certain date, shouldn't you know when you can release it on Netflix? Shouldn't Netflix KNOW when to release and when to advertise its release? All I am saying is that there needs to be communication between the two as not to confuse fans. Again, this is something that has been advertised since at least August. They couldn't have let the public know that it was going to be post-poned because that happens ALL OF THE TIME with everything. That is easy to accept by any of us. Even posting something as late as last night would have been honest and truthful but instead we are all in the dark as to what the hold up is. No one is explaining WHY the release is being put on hold and no one is apologizing for the confusion. That is the most insulting part to me.
Now I know, it is just a Netflix release and we should not be TOO upset by this but go with me here for a moment. Last year was the return of Arrested Development as a Netflix Original series. I, along with A LOT of people, were waiting until 12:00 to watch the full series. Do you know what would have happened if 12 a.m hit and people refreshed only to find out that Arrested Development was 'post-poned.' Not just that but no one released a statement as to WHY the show had been post poned, how angry the general public would have been. Imagine how many articles like this one would be posted all over the internet ...and how much flack Netflix would have been given. The same goes for their other popular Original Series like House of Cards or Orange is the New Black. People would have been outraged and bitching and moaning and Netflix would be forced to make a statement about it. But those of us who were waiting to re-watch a series when we were promised to re-watch a series, do not get any kind of notification?
Adding to this frustration are the many media sites with articles and reviews saying that the series was released today. All of which were released in under eight hours. These journalists did not care to CHECK Netflix BEFORE writing and posting their article about the series. Again, all I ask for is some checks and balances on the part of the reporter. Make sure what you are stating is not false as the claims were. AGAIN, these were all articles released in the last eight hours and should have been caught.
All in all, this is a real quick rant on how some companies should just communicate with each other in these situatiosn and just communicate with the general public as to what is going on ...and how the people reporting and reviewing should take the time to double check before posting something that is not true. I do hope the series up by Tuesday as I am very excited to see what everyone has been talking about.
