Batwoman arrives on The CW on January 17th, 2021, and the network has now released a new poster and synopsis for the show's upcoming second season (via Batwoman.TV).

Following the shock departure of Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Javicia Leslie is taking on the role of newly created character, Ryan Wilder. She also happens to be a lesbian, and takes over the mantle of Gotham City's Scarlet Knight after Kate's disappearance; if these new plot details are any indication, though, the vigilante is going to have her hands full protecting her home.

Hush is impersonating Bruce Wayne, while the False Face Society continues attempting to take over Gotham. A new villain, Safiyah, is also setting her sights on the city for revenge.

Here's that synopsis:

In season two of BATWOMAN, when Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) first discovers Kate Kane's Batsuit, she has no idea how drastically her life is about to change. A sassy, smart lesbian with a difficult past, Ryan sees the suit as her chance to finally be powerful and no longer a victim as she survives in the tough streets of the city.

While Ryan goes rogue in the shadows, Gotham grapples with their missing hero, believing Batwoman has fled the city after a public stand-off with Commander Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and the Crows. But Kate Kane's disappearance hits hardest at home where Jacob, Sophie (Meagan Tandy), Luke (Camrus Johnson), Mary (Nicole Kang) and even Alice (Rachel Skarsten) each struggle with the devastating news in their own way. Meanwhile, the False Face Society tightens its grip on Gotham, distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite, "Bruce Wayne" (Warren Christie) finds his way home to wreak havoc, Safiyah (Shivaani Ghai) surfaces with plans for revenge, and a new set of villains descends on the city.

It's not long before Ryan realizes how much the symbol on the suit means to Gotham, launching her on a personal journey that takes her from fledgling substitute to confident caped crusader, from living in her van with her plant to chasing villains in the Batmobile. Ryan Wilder becomes a very different Batwoman than Kate Kane - her own Batwoman - but with the same understanding of what it means to be a hero.

Season two of Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Dougray Scott, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, and Camrus Johnson.

They should've introduced Tiffany Fox instead of Luke Fox and made her the new Batwoman but that would've been too easy for them.

@E4Nigma - Good alternative, I often forget about her. But they have just re-introduced Luke's estranged missing brother as the new Batman in their Future State comics run so keeping up with some Fox siblings is proving troublesome.

Yeah, that's true. Would've been cool to see them introduce more of the Fox family in live action.

@E4Nigma - The possibility remains open I believe for future Seasons. The Fox Batman could be expained through the multiverse and them interacting with another Earth's doppelganger of Luke's brother, his sister feels easier to do in Earth Prime unless the showrunner flat out says he doesn't have one in the show.

We'll see what happens. Looking forward to seeing what DC does with the multiverse.
