DOOM PATROL Season 2 Cut Short By An Episode Due To COVID-19 Production Shut Down

Due to the global production shut down caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it looks like Doom Patrol season two won't have a proper finale, as they were unable to complete work on episode ten.

While Doom Patrol is still in the midst of its second season, having aired five episodes thus far, it looks like we may not get proper closure on the season this year due to the global production shut down caused by the still ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Newcomer Abigail Shapiro, who plays Dorothy Spinner on the series, revealed to Insider that they were unable to complete filming prior to the shutdown and she believes the planned season finale has now been scrapped, meaning this season will end with episode nine on August 6.

"It was basically all finished. There was going to be one more episode and we only had a couple of scenes left, but we never got to finish that episode. So, I don't know if that episode is ever going to air or anything. I don't know much about what's happening."

Considering how much work has already been done and, not to mention the massive cliffhanger that ends episode nine, it seems highly unlikely that the episode will never air. The more likely scenario, if they're unable to resume filming before the end of the summer, is that it will be saved to serve as a potential season three premiere. That is, of course, if the series is indeed renewed for a third season by the DC Universe or HBO Max.

DC’s strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members of the Doom Patrol now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles’ daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Doom Patrol features:
Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder/The Chief
Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele/Robotman
Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor/Negative Man
April Bowlby as Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman
Joivan Wade as Victor Stone/Cyborg
Diane Guerrero as Kay Challis/Crazy Jane
Phil Morris as Silas Stone
Alan Tudyk as Eric Morden/Mr. Nobody

Doom Patrol returns July 16

Finished the whole season last night, it's so good, but damn, I was just wondering why they didn't send the finale. The cliffhanger is pretty nuts, need that last episode now.

@KingPatel - wonder if the finale will be added to season 2 or just used as the season 3 premiere

Through the first 4 episodes of this season. So far, it pales in comparison to the first season. Some parts of these episodes feel like lesser versions of what came before, other stories are just not that interesting. The first 2 episodes were pretty underwhelming. Episodes 3 and 4 were better, with 4 being a bit of a return to form, but still these episodes aren't as good as season 1.

Hopefully they get season 3 and if not are allowed to finish that episode. Hell if that is it, then expand it into 2 hours

So even them were unable to finish their own arcs just like it happened with Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash and The Walking Dead. It sucks. And I agree that they should go and use the finale of S2 as the beginning of S3 for the time it returns (and it should) even if it is no longer for DC Universe.

Question for DP watchers. Do I need HBO Max to watch this season or can I watch it on Xfinity as long as I have regular HBO?

@MrCamw1 - If you have regular HBO you have HBO Max.

Loving the second season so far. Doom Patrol, Umbrella Academy, and The Boys have lifted CB shows into a new stratosphere.

The structure of this season's pretty different from the first, there's no one narrative through-line like "find the chief & stop Mr. Nobody". I actually think the character work feels stronger this time around thanks to it, but I wonder what it builds up to

@tmp3 - Seems like it's building up to a confrontation with the Candlemaker, and a final decision on what to do with Dorothy, since Danny the Street refuses to hold her prisoner anymore.

@tmp3 - The character stuff is way stronger this year, Larry's probably the MVP, and the buildup is ultimately worth it, but man, it's going to be a long wait for season three after that ending.
