Jada Pinkett Smith, at the PaleyFest yesterday described how she got the role as Fish Mooney in Gotham. She said that she came to the audition not only with the full Fish Mooney attire but with a young man on a leash in tow with the word 'Liar' on his head written in lipstick! "I said, 'Forget it, instead of talking about who Fish Mooney is, let me just show you,'" Said Smith on her audition. Clearly Jada got the role after this audition, it would of been a shock if she wouldn't have. I'm not sure about you, but that to me is certainly one of the craziest auditions i've heard. Sound off below with your thoughts!

@JamesMan

Sean Young is consistently crazy, lol. I forget the story but didn't she show up on set and beg Keaton and Burton for the role while wearing a Catwoman suit or something like that?

And that's why they cast her, now we have a shitty Fish Mooney.

Is this or this not the worst thing you've ever seen? Now imagine that but with a leash.

At first I thought I might like her in the role (despite that horrible hair), but by now I've given up on the performance. :(

I hate when shows think being gay is a characteristic. That's like saying someone with brown hair is a characteristic

I didn't like Fish at first but I think she's a good character.
Just hope she is truly despicable & doesn't become someone who becomes good & helps Gordon.

She needs to become nastier & nastier.
Show needs more original characters & not so many future Bat-Villans.

Admire her charismatic individuality.

Little femdom though

She's actually my second favorite character after RLT's Penguin.

[frick] the good guys, make this show about Gotham's underworld.

Worst part of the show. I'm a big DC fan, and I hate this show. A show like Sherlock has superb writing, and though he's an iconic character, with that writing though it could be a no name detective and people would still watch it because it's written that well, point and case, a show like Luther. However, this show is poorly written and the only reason people are watching is because its based on iconic characters. Shows like this and Agents (a show with poor writing and not even using Iconic characters, but only loosely linked to iconic characters) are what make US tv so bad. If Gotham were simply a new detective show on Fox monday nights, it would have have been canceled after the second week. We should want more as fans... but sadly that is not the case, eat it up.

That reminds me when I saw the Superman Returns: HBO First Look special. Director Bryan Singer said that Brandon Routh got the role of Clark Kent/Superman because he spilled coffee during their meeting and that reminded Singer of Reeves' charismatic take on Clark Kent/Superman. Who would have thought that Superman Returns would be Brandon Routh's career killer. Kind of sad, actually. After Superman Returns disappointed, Brandon Routh's career received this message:

@weareanydaynow

Agents has got consistenly better with the passing of time. It's not perfect, but it's ok. Then, "Gotham"... it has its flaws, but it's not terrible.

Let me remind you of the times when the only TV shows inspired in comic books were the likes of "Clark & Lois" and "Smallville". THAT was terrible. What we have now... man, sure, they could be way better, but they're not awful, we can't complain that much.

As a comic book fan, with all the movies, TV shows and the like... this is heaven right now.

She probably stuck her hand in her pants removed it and dragged her fingers across the directors nose. He smelled fish and it was a full moon. Fish Mooney was born.

@franshu we shouldn't settle for this stuff just because the past has lowered the bar. I'm glad a lot of people like this show for the shows sake. I watched Smallville and I agree this kinda stuff is a step up, and leagues ahead of Lois and Clark, I just can't stomach it, I find both shows incredibly lazy. Shows like Sherlock, Luther (which I would have loved Gotham to favor), Top of the Lake, Happy Valley, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, and True Detective have ruined me to this network garbage. None of those are without their flaws, I guess my taste have changed. To each his own, opinions, we get them right?

Although tastes are subjective, comicbook shows tend to get the heaviest criticism. Gotham is an incredible comicbook show with excellent acting. Fish, Harvey, and Penguin are extremely well played. The Riddler is spot on. Every time I see him, I get flashbacks to Arkham: City.

The problem is that everyone has their own personal idea of which version of the comics they like and how those characters should be portrayed on screen. No comicbook show will satisfy everyone. A performance thought terrible by one will be the exact opposite for another.

As for that lesbian kiss, I don't think it really happened (real world). Notice how they never showed their lips touching, as that girls arm was in the way?

I'm sorry, but as far as her being "excellent" as Mooney, I have to strongly disagree. She's the weak link in this show. Her performances are all over the place and if she's not impersonating Eartha Kitt (RIP) then she's trying to figure out if she wants to be seductive or scary. She makes it hard to enjoy Gotham. And I'm a Jada fan. From way back (A Different World).

weareanydaynow - 10/20/2014, 6:39 AM
@luminus the acting is terrible, the writing is terrible, the tone is terrible, for any kind of show, and I'm a DC fanboy.
weareanydaynow
weareanydaynow - 10/20/2014, 7:38 AM
Jada is the worst part, but no one is stretching out of previous molds, Harvey is literally the dad from Grounded for Life as a cop instead of running a bar and Gordon is Ryan from the OC slightly grown up. Maybe Coblepot is the best this thing offers, but even that is over acting at its finest. Most of the plot is Soap Opera-ish at best (Barbs interactions with anyone deserves to be on noon-time television) and most of Mooney in the club seems like a bad rejected pilot for a 1 am cinemax sleaze fest.
