STARGIRL Set Photo Reveals The DC Universe's Take On Justice Society Of America Member Doctor Mid-Nite

Stargirl hasn't been generating a huge amount of buzz online, but something many fans are excited to see is a new take on the Justice Society of America. The team's presence in the show was teased at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and after previously appearing in Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow, they're no strangers to the small screen.

Now, thanks to Stargirl costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, we have a new look at the "Golden Era" version of Doctor Mid-Nite. There's no sign of his owl companion, but we're guessing that will be added down the line with visual effects.

In the comics, the character is a medical doctor who lost his sight, but can now can see spectrums of light in total darkness. He works with the JSA to train the heroes of tomorrow, as well as to use his medical knowledge for unusual cases, so seeing what he brings to the table here should be fun.

In the DC Universe/The CW series, he will be played by The Haunting of Hill House star Henry Tomas, and the trailer pointed to his protégé Beth Chapel inheriting the mantle in the present day.

Stargirl recently got hit by a slight delay, but it's now set to premiere on Monday, May 18th on DC Universe, and on Tuesday, May 19th on The CW.

Is this like the Minutemen, where they're meant to look like a bunch of schlubs in home-made costumes?

Which is completely fine, don't get me wrong!

It's just that...i mean, you don't really "HAVE TO" do a background check on the Watchmen characters in order to understand the whole thing but from my understanding, people tend to do that either way, cause...you know, shit is just interesting, the origin of Moore's whole creative process and all.

Of course, you're more likely to see people bring up the characters from the Charlton Comics, but if you know your shit, you will quickly connect the dots to the JSA.

There've been reboots and retcons but one of the reasons the JSA had to quit is because they were forced to unmask and reveal their identity.

And i reckon now you quickly guessed where i'm going with this... :3

@Doomsday8888 - Yeah, but Dan Dreiberg looks a lot less refined than Ted Kord, so the Minutemen being schlubby wasn't going to be reflective as a one-to-one of the JSA. Even then, some of the book's commentary is related to Ditko's objectivism so it felt like a pretty clear repurposing of the Charlton comics since Moore wasn't allowed to use them (the irony being that they wound up being more popular), as opposed to DC's superhero lineup.

@tmp3
They were meant to be an alterate version of the Charlton Comics!
But since Moore wanted to kill some of em, DC "proposed" to make new ones.

But Moore was inspired by multiple DC characters, in terms of design, plot points etc...

Why do you think the concept of "Legacy" is so strong in Watchmen?
It all comes back to the JSA in more than one way.

What year is this supposed to be taking place, after crisis, or before, maybe way before from the look.

Haven't had a chance to watch any of the DC Universe shows, but at the very least they've turned out some very good costumes.

It looks good and judging from the set pics it would be logical to conclude that said scene takes place when the JSA HQ is raided as Starman fights back the villains. AKA the show's prologue.

Looks okay, but it is possibly another example of something that looks a lot cooler in artwork than in real life. Better views of this might change my mind. I have to give them points for going for comic accuracy.

The DC Universe costumes never fail to impress.

And no, Raven and Starfire's clothes are not "costumes".
