CBS Passes On Tom Welling's Espionage Pilot SECTION 13; Does This Open The Door To A Return As SUPERMAN?

With Welling's CBS pilot not moving forward, speculation he could return to the DC is running rampant. We also have a cool piece of fan-art revealing how Welling could look as Supergirl's Superman...

TV Line has revealed that Tom Welling's upcoming CBS series Section 13 is not moving forward after receiving a pilot order. The espionage themed series looked set to mark the Smallville star's long overdue to the small screen on a weekly basis, but for reasons unknown, it simply isn't happening. So, the question now is, does this open the door to the actor returning as Superman in Supergirl

There's nothing to indicate that that is the case as of right now, but considering the fact that Welling instantly emerged as a fan-favourite choice to reprise the role since the news broke about Superman earlier this week, you have to believe The CW will have taken note of that. With Section 13 not happening, Welling could very easily become a recurring presence in Supergirl moving forward too.

Welling has had nothing but good things to say about Supergirl, and when he was asked about reprising the role earlier this year, he said: "There's people who would like it... there's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever actually asked me to do it. So, I don't know. It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman." This Kal-El obviously won't be the same one who starred in Smallville, but The Flash has made the concept of doppelgangers clear to audiences, so it wouldn't be too confusing if he were to play Superman...

Will adding Supes really make the show more watchable?

@sKeemAn - Maybe they should just cameo Clark Kent.

@sKeemAn - He'll be better on TV than in their $400 million movie.

Which will make the commenters here even more polarized.

That's what's really important.

@Starman - it feels like if they have him on regularly it will be more of a Superman show than Supergirl.

@crawley - What $400m movie? The budget for BvS was $250m if that's what you're talking about...

@crawley - If that's so, let's add in all the marketing for EVERY movie and see how much they ALL "cost".

What's that? No one cares about the other movies? Well how about that...

@UltimaRex - The budgets you hear and read about usually include the marketing budget.

He was too good for the cape in the Smallville show so why should he now be allowed to wear it.

I could never get into Smallville same reason I never got into Gotham. I'm a big fan of Batman and Superman. I read the comics, watch the movies, play the video games, animated series ect. But I'm not THAT big of a fan that I would watch a show about them going through puberty or whatever the [frick] these shows are about.
