Geoff Johns Says SUPERGIRL Doubters Should Remember THE FLASH

Geoff Johns points to the fact that many fans doubted Grant Gustin and The CW's Flash after the first look at the costume but look at fan opinion now after the first season?

The comic book world had a divided reaction to the first look at Melissa Benoist in the Supergirl costume. Since then, the pilot episode for the CBS superhero drama has leaked and fan opinion actually seems to be swinging more towards the positive of late.  Nevertheless, there are a vocal few who still doubt what Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are planning for Superman's little cousin.  Speaking at a signing event in Los Angeles, IGN spoke to Geoff Johns about why everyone should just stay calm.

"Everyone deserves to have a reaction, but at the end of the day, I believe in the pilot, I believe in the show. When people see the pilot, they’re going to be blown away.  When they first saw his suit, when we cast [Flash actor] Grant [Gustin], people were like, ‘That’s not the Flash!’ and now people are like, ‘Oh my god, he is the Flash!’ I’m so proud of that show and -- in so many ways the Flash was my favorite character growing up -- to see it realized and to see people embracing it. And it truly is a Flash TV show, we’re not shying away from anything. We jokingly said, yeah we’re doing Gorilla Grodd and I think people were like, ‘Okay...’ Yeah, no, we’re doing Gorilla Grodd! And we’ve got a lot of great plans for Supergirl in the same vein as that."

The difference is the Flash isn't a female version of a hero we have already seen.

The Supergirl pilot was not bad though.

I enjoyed the Supergirl pilot quite a bit. The trailer threw me off but the show itself has a much more balanced tone

Arrow had one mediocre season after two good ones. Don't write it off yet.

Hmmm...Good point...but I saw the pilot already and it isn't as strong as Arrow or Flash's pilots imo.

I've seen the pilot. I was NOT blown away. For me, it was underwhelming.

Unlike Supergirl's,
Arrow's and The Flash's pilots were directed by the same guy...just saying.

"Arrow had one mediocre season after two good ones. Don't write it off yet."

Agreed. I disliked Season 3 of Arrow as much as anyone, but that's made a lot of people to start complaining about the show as a whole. Last I checked most of us really liked it last year. One poor season (and the arrival of Daredevil which is in a whole other class and should't be compared to Arrow) has caused everyone to write it off.

That said, if Season 4 sucks, I'm out ;)

Guys don't listen to 0mega. He's a homophobe. He hated this last season of Arrow because of that scene where Slade put his arrow in Ollie's quiver.

I thought it was very tasteful.

Haven't seen the pilot. Don't think I will. The trailer looked corny.

I did not see the pilot because after 10 minutes i couldn't take anymore lol and i'm a fan of CBM's and the TV shows but Supergirl ehh. The show has CW written all over it and should air with Heart of Dixie and whatever other girlie shows they have. Even though i had some hope for the show i don't think it's for me.

Love this part: "when we cast [Flash actor] Grant [Gustin], people were like, ‘That’s not the Flash!’ and now people are like, ‘Oh my god, he is the Flash!’"

I remember when Grant was cast there were a lot of "he looks too young" "His hair isn't blonde!" "where's the blue eyes?" "should be Wally" "should've been Matt Barr"

Now with Ezra it's the same damn thing. Except it seems to be worse just cause he has long hair in his personal life. Like if he can't cut that sht.

Super girl pilot was awesome, way better than the Flash pilot. Imagine if it has the same upward trend!

The BIG difference between The Flash and Supergirl is the villains. Supergirl just doesn't have them. Flash has great villains.

I saw the pilot and it was underwhelming. Melissa Benoist is good and has a lotta potential but its the characters around her that bring down the show. Her sister for instance, it's the stereotypical cliche'd coincidence that a close character whos connected to the protagonist is also connected to some big overarching plot. Apparently, her sister can do EVERYTHING. she's an expert on bio engineering or whatever, on extraterrestrials, AND a soldier who can propel from helicopters? she was EVERYWHERE. Still, i have hope for the show and hope to see it in the DC TV universe

LMAO @ male comic nerds, trying to act righteously indignant over the ONe female superhero TV show, that does the exact opposite of what ALL the male ones do.

I swear, you women hating nerds really need to get laid.

I haven't see the pilot yet, but the trailer was underwhelming. I'm a watch that shit tonight. I'm still probably going to tune in to the show anyway.

I already gave it a chance when the pilot leaked. I won't be watching anymore of this show.
