National City has a new Guardian, and we have a first look at Azie Tesfair (Jane the Virgin, The Wretched) in full costume as the golden armour-clad vigilante.

It was reported back in March that Tesfair's character, Kelly Olsen, would follow in her brother Jimmy's (Mehcad Brooks) footsteps by taking up the Guardian mantle, and she's set to make her official debut as the hero in the upcoming 12th episode of the sixth and final season.

"That [has] been our plan since the beginning of creating that role," said co-showrunner Jessica Queller regarding Kelly's transformation. "We just wanted to find the right context for it, and so it just evolved really beautifully in the context of the social justice stories we wanted to tell [in season 6]."

The episode, which is titled "Blind Spot," is set to air on September 21, and will tackle racial inequality. Tesfai co-wrote it with co-producer J.Holtham, with Arrow alum David Ramsey stepping behind the camera to direct. He's also on board to reprise his role as John Diggle.

"[Episode] 12, in my opinion, for Kelly, is the most epic episode of the season, so I'm excited to get to pen it," Tesfai tells EW. "To have David Ramsey directing the episode... that makes me really excited. Ramsey and I had dinner the other night and just talking about his perspective and experiences; they're very different than mine. So, I think to have such a well-balanced [group] between me, J., who I'm writing the episode with, and David Ramsey, I think fans will feel really excited and hopefully seen and heard."

I wanted Steel (John Irons) to show up as a character in this show. Well maybe I’ll get lucky with Superman & Lois.

Should've just used Steel and Natasha instead of "Jimmy" and this literal who if they wanted em to suit up.

Why bother tho.

@Doomsday8888 - well to be fare, it wasnt exactly planned.

Jimmy's actor didnt even sign onto season 2 until the last minute (explaining why he did so little that season), so may have just been done to give him something to do after they made Mon El the main love interest.

@dracula
I mean, they did cast a black man, the rest comes with the territory (the comics).
He was Jimmy in name only but could've been a damn good Steel tho.

@Doomsday8888 - agreed. He definitely would’ve made a better John H. Irons than Jimmy Olson.

@Doomsday8888 - I think that logic is faulty that a black man should be steel. If Jimmy was basically Winn in terms of the technology area, then yeah by all means.

Though in this particular case the actor definitely could have pulled off Steel.

Don't really care to be honest, her character hasn't been that good and usually helps amplify the abrasiveness of some of the Alex centric subplots.

When I was reading comics in the late 80s and 90s, I always remember Guardian standing out as a cool character in my Superman comics. His arc with Clone Supergirl during the Death of Superman arc was compelling to me as a kid. I can't say I love the character but I've always enjoyed the kinda antihero aspect he had.

Idk what the [frick] this shit is, but it isn't Guardian.
