Surprising New Details On The Possible Crossover Between SUPERGIRL And THE FLASH

New details have emerged about the planned crossover between Supergirl and The Flash, and the storyline it's going to be based on is sure to surprise you!

Earlier this week, we learned that plans were being put in place for The Flash to appear on Supergirl if CBS orders an additional nine episodes. Well, Bleeding Cool has now added to that the crossover is deemed as a requirement if the series gets those extra episodes. That apparently has something to do with it being, "part of an arc that takes on the storyline from the Supergirl comics about New Krypton – that comic saw 100,000 Kryptonians come to Earth after Brainiac freed them from the Bottle City of Kandor, with a new planet being built for them. It also mirrors a plotline currently running in Dark Knight III: The Master Race. But how much of that could be done on a TV budget means we may get a very different way of telling that story." How does The Flash get involved with that? It has to have something to do with alternate timelines and realities, right?!

Here's the bad news. The site is backtracking a little on their report about Matt Ryan's Constantine becoming part of Legends of Tomorrow's second season, revealing that, "while Constantine played by Matt Ryan has indeed been discussed for the show, DC Comics themselves are the stumbling block on the character appearing in the show. I’m also hearing from another well connected source that the show is incredibly expensive and they’re not sure if they’ll go with a second season, and instead replace it with a totally different show for it." That's very interesting, and the prospect of an entirely different series taking Legends of Tomorrow's place is in many ways more exciting than them stretching out that premise a little too far. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure exactly how they'll make this crossover work, but I think Flash and Supergirl would work well on eachother's shows. They have a more similar tone than Flash and Arrow have at least.

Didn't one of the producers or showrunners described Legends of Tomorrow as like DC's American Horror Story with a new direction and story every season?

I am 100% certain Legends of Tomorrow will have a second season and Constantine will be in it. It's just common sense people.

Uh yea, I hate this. If you're gonna have Supergirl/Flash crossover then take influence from eh Superman:TAS and have a race around the world between Supergirl and Flash. Why involve Brainiac, Kador, Kryptonians, and more if you won't even show Superman and this is just the first season of the show?

I could see that. Legends of Tomorrow does look super expensive. It seems like it would need huge ratings to justify a second season but could the ratings really be any higher than what The Flash already gets?

If Contantine isn't allowed on the show at least that is semi-confirmation that they are indeed moving forward with Justice League Dark, although please please please be given a different title and team name.

Hate to be that guy.. but it's CBS that would be ordering the nine additional episodes, not NBC. Anyway I think it would be really cool for the Flash and Supergirl to crossover. The two shows are both very similar in tone, they'd be a great fit together.

I cant take super girl. But Flash is really dope so I guess it could be interesting. I would have liked super girl to be her own unervise because it is a bad show

Isn't Supergirl doing really well? why would a network put such an odd precursor on renewing a show?

I'm fairly sure we'll see a second season of this, if there is a crossover i can't see taking place in the story line described above:

It will either be a straightforward 2 episode crossover like Flarrow; we know batman and superman exist in the Arrowverse thanks to Savge's Legends of Tomorrow speech (fall of men of steel and dark knights etc.)and newspaper of the future in Flash (Queen-Wayne merger) so we have already accepting that some heroes just don't bump into each other for a while.

OR if they want to keep them largely separate Flash could travel through one of his many inter-dimensional tears in reality to Kara's earth for an episode

Loving Supergirl!

I think it's obvious that she and Superman live on a different Earth from Flash.
Would definitely love to see a variation of the old speedster vs super race around the world.

@Parkerluckpersonified Supergirl ratings have dropped faster then any other comic book show. It hit 1.5 in its 5th episode. Gotham at episode 5 was at a 2.2 & Agents of SHIELD was at a 2.7.

Didn't see that coming.

My guess is they're having trouble using Constantine because of the JLD movie.

All of this backtracking to the Smallville days of characters being held back is really, really pissing me off! Even the mainstream audience is intelligent enough to understand the television and movie versions of characters aren't any different. I've also said it so many times before, but Superman Returns and Terminator Salvation did poorly because of the story in the movies and the way they were presented, not because of Smallville and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. If Supergirl is still having ratings trouble at the end of the season, they really should bring in Mongul or another Superman villain unlikely to appear in movies and have the two Kryptonians team up. Yes, there is a movie Superman but no one is going to confuse Henry Cavill with the television Superman (not Tom Welling).

Supergirl has been amazing! I know we on the podcast have been tearing their version of Red Tornado a new one, but the show is wayyyy better than expected and only a half step behind Flash.

The Flash and Supergirl would fit great together because they are the same show.
Barry's adopted father is in law enforcement as Supergirl's adopted sister is in law enforcement (sort of)
They both have over achieving crumudgened bosses at the top of their field.
They both have romantic ties to reporter friends.
Barry fights meta humans, Supergirl fights aliens.
They both struggle to understand the extent of their powers. As do their friends and family.
I still love both shows and say bring them together. Crossovers are entertaining.

Why don't we just have Supergirl cross over into the CW-verse and see that their world needs a Supergirl more than her's does because Superman is already protecting it? And then the second season could be somewhat scaled down in scope, with cheaper actors, and ditch all of the irritating and pointless supporting characters from the CBS show?

It's not dissimilar to Supergirl joining the Legion of Superheroes in Justice League Unlimited (and similar stories in the comics). It allows her to get out of Superman's shadow and become her own hero in her own right on a world that needs her.

Totally agree, it's so annoying. The fact that they can't use certain characters or storylines cause of movies, I hate it so much. I'm still pissed off thinking how much better it would've been if Batman was in Smallville instead of Green Arrow.

I could see them doing NEW KRYPTON, since they already used Reactron. They'll probably bring him back and introduce Metallo. Perhaps Reactron will get his Gold Kryptonite heart.

Yeah, it's rumored to be an anthology series, like AHS or True Detective.

I've suggested before WB/DC should have a DCEU anthology series on HBO.

In regards to Constantine,DC may still have hopes of renewing the series
on NBC or one of it's family of networks like Syfy.We may have to wait
till the spring when networks announce the new fall shows, before we know
for sure NBC hasn't changed it's mind based on the reception Constantine
got on Arrow and decides to renew the stand alone show.

With Supergirl the "New Krypton" storyline did lead to the "100 minute war"
storyline which could really be done a few ways since Diggle on Arrow
made a statement along the lines of "Meta-humans.What's next aliens?"
That would suggest that in the Arrow verse alien life is not known to the public which would fly in the face of Superman being a public figure for
about 10 years.

I figure a smaller group of Kryptonians gets out on Supergirl's earth and somehow captures Superman and overruns the Earth forcing Supergirl to crossover to the Arrow earth to recruit the Flash,Hawkgirl and Firestorm
to mount a rescue of the Man of Steel and defeat the Kryptonians.

By doing a crossover in this fashion, the writers of Supergirl can
keep that show mostly independant continuety wise, from the CW shows
and the Arrowverse doesn't have to do a major retcon to explain Superman
being in existance and not helping out when a Black Hole opened in Central
City and Starling City was razed by an Earthquake device.

Musical crossover episode? Absolutely. Mxyzxptlk plays havoc across the multiverse in C-Major. Writes itself. Get it done!
