The CW's President Explains Why We Won't See More Than Four DC TV Shows On Air At Any One Time

Fans aren't happy about Supergirl going on hiatus so Legends of Tomorrow can air in its place. Here, The CW President Mark Pedowitz explains why the network will only air four DC TV shows at one time.

The number of superhero TV shows on the air increases on a yearly basis and The CW has become a hub for the DC Universe. The network kicked things off with Arrow in 2012 and followed that with The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning. Since then, boss Mark Pedowitz has made it clear that he doesn't want The CW to become known solely for its superhero offering and he confirmed in a recent interview that the network will only air four DC TV shows at any one time.

Bloomberg then pointed out that the Arrowverse programming has taken a hit this year as ratings in the 19 - 49 demographic has that's dipped by 7.5%. However, it's worth noting that the numbers are actually flat with last season when streaming and DVR audience numbers are taken into account.

However, Pedowitz isn't worried about audience fatigue setting in and doesn't see the demand for superhero content coming to an end in the near future. "The audience will tell you when the fatigue has set in. If you have a quality show or a fun show, the audience will stay with it." Black Lightning has been
a ratings hit for The CW so his comments add up and it is hard to imagine these shows wrapping up anytime soon. What do you guys think? Be sure to let us know your thoughts below.

Arrow: It will probably end either this year or next year, considering Stephen Amell's contract is only for 7 seasons, plus not sure where you could go after Longbow Hunters as the big bads, maybe David Cain and Lady Shiva.
The Flash: It will be on for a good amount of more time, I say for season 5 do another non speedster, then maybe consider doing a speedster after that for season 6, or use the rogues.
Supergirl: Also can go for a good amount more seasons, and there are plenty of villains they could use as big bads, and plenty of stories they could do like the New Gods, mongul.
Legends Of Tomorrow:This show can go on for a while, as long as they still have good ideas for time problems each season. They have found their perfect tone, a JLI style.
Black Lightning: Its new so it can obviously last, but they need to figure out where they will get more villains after Tobias is taken down, my opinion introduce the milestone comic characters and use their villains, and use Blood Syndicate and Holocaust as the big bad of season 2 or 3

Black Lightning is on Netflix here in the UK and marked as a Netflix exclusive, very weird

Black Lightening is considered a ratings hit? I'm very surprised. I think it has been good, but I didn't it had that big of an appeal.

@tugboy - It's doing pretty good so far, and critics seem to like it. I can't blame them.

Just as audiences tell them when superhero fatigue is setting in (not yet), they should allow audiences to tell them when it is time for another new Superhero series. If other types of shows are not doing well... shouldn't they (as a business) embrace what the audience is asking for and watching? Don't put a "four shows at a time" cap on things... stay fluid. And who cares what you are known as, as long as you are known?

Don't want more that 4 CB shows at one time on WB? Then just make it new channel WBCB with only CB content.

@tugboy - We're getting that DC streaming service soon. The one with the Titans show and return of Young Justice. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Arrowverse shows on there if CW chooses to cancel one of them.

They kinda already have it with Legends, but I think Doom Patrol would be a good choice. He's going to be on Krypton so I'm not sure how it would work, but Adam Strange could be a good show.

It's annoying to have people click on a. DC article for the CW and they say "CANCEL THEM ALL"

But Arrow, Flash, Legends, Supergirl, & Black Lightning are 5 shows. It's already more than 4. What am I missing here?

@ThouBear8 - He's saying no more than 4 shows a week. CW only has 10 hrs per week of primetime original shows. Right now they only have 4 shows in any given (e.g., LoT is on hiatus right now so there are only 4 shows on per week; in a few weeks LoT will come back and Supergirl will go on hiatus so that they only have 4 CB shows a week). So CBTV shows represent 40% of their primetime original programming. They don't want to go any higher than that.

@tugboy - Ah okay, thanks, that makes more sense. I think they spread themselves too thin awhile ago as it is, so I'm glad to hear they're not planning on expanding more than they already have.

For those who are confused they mean that one of the shows will be on hiatus so there will only be 4 shows airing a week not 5.

in Argentina we don't have the CW but we have Warner Channel, that channel is literally just the superhero shows, HP movies, sometimes they give a LOT of the MCU movies and they even make specials about Iron Man, etc. Then is just comedy series and supernatural.
