YOUNG JUSTICE Officially Renewed For A Fourth Season At The DC Universe

The DC Universe has wrapped up its San Diego Comic-Con presentation by announcing that their Young Justice animated series has been renewed for a fourth season, set to air presumably in 2020.

With the third season expected to wrap up near the end of the summer, the DC Universe has officially renewed their acclaimed animated series, Young Justice, for a fourth season, presumably set to air in the 2020 or 2021 calendar year.

No word yet on the episode count, but another twenty-six installments seems about right. It's also still early for any potential plot details, but expect our heroes to tackle another deadly threat to humanity while also introducing a number of new young heroes to add to their ever-growing roster.

The currently ongoing third season has already been setting the stage for an inevitable showdown with Darkseid, but it remains to be seen whether we'll actually see the war in season three or the now-official season four.

DC's teenage Super Heroes come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets as the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a global and galaxy-wide genetic arms race.

Season One focused on Superboy
Season Two focused on Blue Beetle
Season Three focused on Geo-Force
wonder who will be the focus of season 4

@dracula - Hard to say since each one was a newly introduced character into the world.
Personally, I'd love to see Gear introduced and have Static be the focus. He's woefully underutilized considering what a cool character he is.

@shadowspider9 - Probably will be a new character. Not much has been done with Darkseid so he will probably stick around. Maybe use Supergirl, take some inspiration from the Pre New 52, Superman/Batman Apocalypse story. Maybe do a teenage version of Kyle Rayner. Who knows who they wil pick. Wonder how long will be the next time jump

@dracula - I’m definitely expecting Kyle. Supergirl makes sense and I wonder if it wouldn’t work with Superboy OR work even better BECAUSE of Superboy

@dracula - Not sure if I want Superman/Batman Kara. I like the character but that incarnation of her I remember her personality being really angry and kind of dry.
I personally have a soft spot for the 90's/animated version. I felt her being a happy go lucky hot head made for a cool contrast to Clark's stoic level headed character.

@shadowspider9 - agreed I didn’t really mean that version of the character I just mean plot points from that story and the possibility of having a supergirl

This season has been great so far. I geeked out when Harper Row showed up. The Court of Owls made a cameo a while back, so maybe this will be the first adaptation to do the Court justice outside of the comics.

@Darkknight2149 - This movie had a pretty good arc on the Court of Owls. Worth watching.

They should crossover Constantine and Swamp Thing into a single mini-series on DC Universe. Fans have been demanding a revival of both shows.

You could easily tie the darkness in the swamp on Swamp Thing into the "rising darkness" from Constantine and make a crossover continuation of both shows.

Hell, they could do an entire Justice League Dark crossover at this point. Swamp Thing and Constantine have already set up Blue Devil, the Phantom Stranger, the Spectre, Doctor Fate, Madam Xanadu, John Constantine, Swamp Thing, and probably a couple of others I'm forgetting.

@Darkknight2149 - I'm not sure if you know this or not, but people that worked on Swamp Thing they said there was plans for Justice League Dark. The plan was to introduce more characters in season 2 and then have a spin-off show that would take place around season 3. So it is very disappointing this won't happen.

@BlackIceJoe -
Hopefully they come to their senses and release a miniseries and wrap up both Constantine and Swamp Thing in a crossover miniseries (since neither show is getting renewed).

It would cause a lot of buzz and excitement for their streaming app, the plot of Swamp Thing can be easily tied into the Rising Darkness from Constantine, and fans have been campaigning hard for both shows to be resurrected in some form.

They wouldn't even need to connect it to the CW shows, because Matt Ryan could easily be playing another Earth's Constantine in Arrow and Legends.

This is great news and now if only WB would have faith in giving Green Lantern: The Animated Series another season, seeing as they have no plans for a live action movie, at least this would kind of fill that void.

@BlackIceJoe - Isn't the GLC in development at WB? On Geoff Johns's site it says "in development".
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 7/21/2019, 12:16 PM
@Battabing - Just because it says it is in development doesn't mean it truly is.

For example how long is has Dwayne Johnson been saying he'll be playing Black Adam and nothing has come from it. I understand it Finally looks like he'll play him, but when Flash has gone through five different directors and we've heard nothing on Green Lantern I'm unfortunately inclined to believe it isn't a priority.

Unlike Disney with Marvel it just seems like DC isn't a priority to Warner Bros. and as a bigger DC who knows there is huge potential with the DC universe it saddens me to see how little WB cares for that universe, other than Harley Quinn and friends.

I'm also going to be honest I think there is bigger potential for DC to be bigger for WB than Marvel has been for Disney, for a few reasons a big one being they own all their comic book characters and I also think DC has bigger A-listers, mind you that will change once the X-Men come around, but I just feel like WB is sitting on not a gold mine, but an oil mine and doing nothing with it.

@BlackIceJoe -
When it comes to films I think you're right.
Ironically, it was Tsujihara who prophetically warned WB (before he became CEO) that they would lose a generation of fans to Marvel if they didn't start mining the DC characters.
I think DC's strength on the big screen has huge potential. But where DC has made inroads and strengthened its foundations as pop cultural entertainment is on all small screens, i.e. TV, animation, video games, and streaming.
Those efforts have actually helped rescue the brand after cinematic shortcomings.
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 7/21/2019, 1:22 PM
@Battabing - That is very true. Millions of people know of Green Arrow and Black Canary now, because of the tv shows.

Speaking of animated shows it is weird that WB doesn't ask Bruce Timm or Greg Weisman to be their Kevin Feige. You'd think with how loved the universes they have created you want them to help shape the live action one. I understand animated shows are different then live action, but you'd still think they'd be helpful.

@BlackIceJoe -
Well, Feige is a producer. I think the hat he wears is much different than those creatives like Timm and Weisman wear.
Also, Timm has been behind some questionable choices when it comes to DC characters.

This is excellent news...

Now if only we could get the current season and the upcoming one on Blu-Ray. I want to support the series AND add the new seasons to my shelf.
