YOUNG JUSTICE: OUTSIDERS' New NIGHTWING Costume Ties In To The Series' Unfinished Story

When the first character designs for Young Justice season 3 were unveiled at last month's SDCC, fans quickly focused on the odd new costume for Dick Grayson aka Nightwing.

Speaking to CB, lead character designer Phillip Bourassa stated, "Well, we can’t talk too much about plot stuff but if you look at the art that we showed you’ll notice there’s no hero insignias. There’s no telltale signs of, ‘This is Nightwing. This is Black Lightning,’ that sort of thing.

Following the tradition of the sort of covert ops aspect, the stealth missions that we’ve always had in the show, and looking at Dick Grayson’s arc and where we left him, where he’s like, ‘I don’t want to do this superhero thing,’ so then you can kind of see where that’s going."

It seems that continuation of dangling plot threads is a major driving force according to executive producer Brandon Vietti.  However, the show isn't exclusively looking to retread previously covered territory and fans should also expect a few new elements, ideas and characters to be introduced.

Vietti says he and fellow executive producer Greg Weisman broke out their old index cards that they'd long since put in storage when they began work on Young Justice: Outsiders.  "
There were a lot of unfinished stories with them that we had ideas for, I think even in our first and second season, story ideas written down on little 3x5 cards and put on a wall and we just couldn’t get to those 3x5 cards in our first two seasons but Greg, he kept all of them and they came out, they’re up on the wall again."

Vietti continued, "So we’re going back into those and trying to continue, logically, the story progressions that everybody got to see in the first two season but also bring in these new ideas that we’ve had for a while but will shed new light on different aspects of the characters."

Young Justice: Outsiders is set to premiere sometime in 2018 on DC Entertainment's new, untitled streaming platform.

I'm very excited for this. I am also interested in the streaming platform that they are working on. Hopefully it is free like the CW app. I will be very disappointed if it is a paid subscription.

@RancidBane - Probably going to be paid. It depends on the price for me on whether I'll subscribe.

@MarkJulian - there are too many paid subscriptions these days. It's frustrating.

@RancidBane - I'd be perfectly fine with ads if that means I don't have to do a paid subscription but at the end of the day they have to pay for the content somehow

@EnnisFan - ads seem to work on all the free services that exist. Netflix has said the only reason they have paid subscription was to avoid the annoyance of ads. But I'm good with the ads if I don't have to pay.

@RancidBane - Personally I'd rather pay a few dollars and not deal with advertisements. We're too bombarded with advertising as it is, and I'd happily pay a little bit to avoid more.

Never watched this show, is it good?

They could have Nightwing in a ballet skirt, and I'd still watch the frick outta this.

I know, I am being a monumental hypocrite, but the show is just that good.

Characterization trumps all.

Most do not know this.

Greg Weisman knows.

Best cartoon superhero show for me. Hopefully we get more Blue Beetle; he was astounding in season 2.

@ScarletWarlock - he was great but I definitely want less of him and Impulse since they had most screen time out of the new characters (and for good reason, but characters like Bumblebee and Batgirl suffered for it). And with even more new characters joining, I'd like less Beetle, more equal time for everyone

I hope "skew more adult" means dealing with more mature themes and not just swearing. It'll feel really out of place having gone two seasons with no adult language and then all of the sudden we get a "I'm gonna kick your ass" every episode.

@JamesPunn - maybe some explicit sex scenes
