GAME OF THRONES Creator Yawns At Marvel's Movie Villains

It's no lie that Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin is a big Marvel fanboy. Recently on his blog, he gave his thoughts on Ant-Man. While praising the film, he also wasn't happy at the lack of Wasp and his tired of Marvel villains. Click to check it out.

It's fair to say that Game of Thrones creator, George RR Martin, knows his stuff in terms of writing great character in the Game of Thrones universe and also being a big Marvel fanboy so big he wrote letters to Marvel Comics which were published. Recently on his blog, he gave his thoughts on Marvel Studios's Ant-Man film. The film has overall been given a good reception by critics, fans, and box office wise. George RR Martinliked Ant-Man but had some issues with it.

His thoughts on Ant-Man:

"ANT-MAN has a proper balance of story, character, humor, and action, I think. A couple reviewers are calling it the best Marvel movie ever. I won't go that far, but it's right up there, maybe second only to the second Sam Raimi/ Tobey McGuire [sic] Spider-Man film, the one with Doc Ock.

I've liked most of the Marvel movies, to be sure, I'm still a Marvel fanboy at heart (Excelsior!), but I liked this one more than the first AVENGERS and a lot more than the second, more than either THOR, more than the second and third IRON MAN and maybe just a smidge more than the first (though I liked that one a lot too)."

His thoughts on the film using Scott Lang and not Hank Pym:

I was eager for the film, but apprehensive about it as well, especially when I heard it would be about Scott Lang, not Hank Pym. I am relieved and delighted to report that they did it right.

His thoughts on the lack of Wasp:

Where was the Wasp? We got a few glimpses, and a set up for the next film. But I wanted more Wasp, and I loved the old original Hank/ Janet dynamic (before they got to the wife-beating stuff).

His thoughts on Yellowjack and Marvel villains:

Also, while Yellowjacket makes a decent villain here (in the comics, of course, he was actually one of Hank's later identities, after Giant-Man and Goliath), I am tired of this Marvel movie trope where the bad guy has the same powers as the hero. The Hulk fought the Abomination, who is just a bad Hulk. Spider-Man fights Venom, who is just a bad Spider-Man. Iron Man fights Ironmonger, a bad Iron Man. Yawn. I want more films where the hero and the villain have wildly different powers. That makes the action much more interesting).

What are your thoughts on Martin's thoughts on Ant-Man? Does Martin's thoughts match your thoughts on Ant-Man or is his thoughts the exact opposite of your thoughts? Did his thoughts change your thoughts? Have you ever thought while looking up in the night sky that somebody's looking back at you? Comment below, let me know. Peace and remember...

And before people start saying what he said is irrelevant, George has been reading Marvel since their heydays.

Marvel has had some good villains though

I wish Marvel had the rights to their big baddies, like Doctor Doom, Galactus, Kang, etc

Marvel finally has Norman Osborn in the MCU and Spider-Man's rogue's gallery

There is still hope!

This is the by far the best Marvel villain. He makes every other villain including Loki look like amateurs.

I'm so over Marvel's villains now.
They deliver wonderful charismatic and dynamic heroes but the villains absolutely suck.

Darren Cross was probably the worst yet.
Not only is it a disservice to the character but even worse, it's a disservice to the fine actors that portray them.

As someone who's said for years besides Loki and Kingpin, all the Marvel villains including Winter Soldier and whoever Robert Redford played in Winter Soldier.....

hes right, Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket was ultimately forgettable, particularly against the more likable trio of Pym/Lang/Hope. the battles were good. but he literally was another variation of Obidiah Stane...and Stane was more interesting, mostly because he HAS A BOX OF SCRAPS....while Cross just had some tales to astonish haha

it was the one reason Im relieved they focused on Lang, Hank would have been just a shrinking variation on Iron Man...variety is what will make the comic book genre continue on, not similar movies that begin to bore people

And Ant-Man may not have been in the top 5 Marvel movies, but its a worthy, enjoyable addition to the MCU...now post credit scenes gets me excited for NEXT YEAR!

@Omarvls

I'd argue that the fact Fox has Dr Doom, Magneto, Apocalypse, Mr Sinister, Galactus, Kang, and the Skulls; that even with Spidey that Fox's villains are better.

Besides Osborn, none of Spidey's villains really go after the Avengers.

He's right, but at the same time wouldn't he, as a fan, want these characters(abomination, venom, iron monger) to appear on screen? They're from the comics and they make sense from a logical standpoint, even then that isn't always the case. Ant Man fought Falcon, and that was a visually different, and fun fight, although he isn't a villain. They go naturally from the comics, that's the way I interpret it, just because most of the comics have a sort of anti version of the main character that is loved by fans galore doesn't make the creative decision in the movies bad. Plus, people don't bitch about Winter Soldier but he is a super soldier assassin, and would you really want to see a whole movie where he fights a robot Arnim Zola? NO! We want Winter Soldier. In terms of quality villains, they all come in different forms. But Glad to hear he is a big Marvel fan!
