Ten Theories Regarding The Identity Of The "Blue Man" On Agents of SHIELD

Here are ten theories on who I think the "blue man" on Agents of SHIELD might be. I have listed them by order of likelihood (in my opinion), and assessed the strengths and weaknesses of each.

1. A Kree

From wiki: "True Kree resemble humans almost exactly, with the exception of blue skin. Kree have a higher strength level than that of a human, and require more nitrogen to breathe comfortably. Kree bodies are adapted to environmental characteristics on Hala that are un-Earthlike: they have a higher gravity and a higher concentration of nitrogen in the atmosphere. Under Earth's lesser gravity their strength and speed increase. However, they cannot breathe in Earth's atmosphere without using a chemical, "breathing formula", or artificial life-support devices."

Support for theory: The Kree race will appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The markings on the side of the blue man's chest look very similar to the insignia on the front of Ronan's armor:

Criticism of theory: In the comics, Kree bodies are not known to produce fluids with healing properties. However, this may be a new addition for the MCU; or perhaps the body has been tampered with in some way.

2. Geheneris Hala´son Mahr Vehl

From wiki: "Mahr Vehl is a member of the Kree... He is a "Pluskommander" -- described by him as being equivalent to captain -- in the Kree's interstellar fleet, the Kree Void Navy."

This is an extension of the Kree theory, positing that it is not just any Kree, but the renowned Mahr Vehl...

Support: The letters "G.H." are seen multiple times on the wall of the room where the blue man is contained, and also preface the name of the healing solution which he produces.

Criticism: Would Marvel use a character like Mahr Vehl up in a TV Show? It seems unlikely.

3. Garbha-Hsien

From wiki: "Saul (real name Garbha-hsien) is a fictional character in Marvel Comics. His first appearance was in X-Force #10. He is both a mutant and one of the Externals."

Support: The letters "G.H.". Garbha-Hsien is (virtually) immortal in the comics, which might explain how his body is still alive despite enormous damage to the lower half of it.

Criticism: Garbha-Hsein is an External (a subspecies of mutant) in the comics, which is part of the X-Men side of the Marvel universe. Marvel would most likely have to negotiate a deal with Fox to use him.

4. An Inhuman

From wiki: "At the beginning of the Kree-Skrull War, millions of years ago in Earth time, the alien Kree established a station on the planet Uranus, a strategic position between the Kree and Skrull empires. Through their work at this station, they discovered that sentient life on nearby Earth had genetic potential invested in it by the alien Celestials. Intrigued, the Kree began to experiment on Earth's then-primitive Homo sapiens to produce the genetically advanced Inhuman race."

Support: We know Marvel wanted to use the Inhumans (there was talk of a film a few years ago). The appearance of Inhumans varies hugely (they can look like anything; any skin color or height, etc - some are certainly blue).

Criticism: Would Marvel introduce an Inhuman before the Skrulls (and Kree-Skrull war)? It seems unlikely, but maybe the backstory could be dealt with further down the line.

5. A Sakaaran

From wiki: "A race of aliens from the planet Sakaar."

Support: They are known to exist in the MCU (toy versions of them have been seen for Guardians of the Galaxy).

Criticism: They have grey skin (although this could be tinted blue by the water).

6. A Centaurian

From wiki: "A humanoid race with blue skin... average height of 7 feet (2.1 m). Some demonstrate "psionic" abilities. They are a primitive tribal race, using bows and arrows in hunting. Centaurians are native to Centauri IV, Yondu of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a Centaurian"

Support: They are blue and are established to exist in the MCU (Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy).

Criticism: As with some of the other alien races listed here, Centaurians are quite an obscure race and (casual) Marvel fans might not recognize the name. Using the Kree would be more logical, as they are popular and have appeared in e.g. Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon.

7. A Luphomoid

From marvel.com: "When Galactus devoured the planet Luphom, only a small number of of Luphomoids who were off-world invading another planet at the time survive"

Support: Luphomoids are blue and are established to exist in the MCU (Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy).

Criticism: (see Centaurian criticism)

8. A Sark

From wiki: "A humanoid race with light blue skin, standing 6'1" on average. They come from the planet Sarka, third from the sun in the Tilnast star system in the Milky Way galaxy.

Support: Right appearance (skin colour and height).

Criticism: The race is not known to exist in the MCU.

9. A Frost Giant

Support: They are blue, and are established to exist in the MCU. It would not be the first creature from Jotunheim to slip through to Earth.

Criticism: The Frost Giants we have seen do not have ears, nor smooth skin. They are typically much taller than the blue man in the tank.

10. An Atlantean

From wiki: "Homo mermanus is a fictional race of gilled aquatic humanoids"

Support: They are blue, and can survive in water.

Criticism: The blue man does not appear to have gills. Universal owns the rights to "Namor", and it seems unlikely Marvel would introduce the Atlanteans as a race without him.

I'm thinking either Kree or Atlantean.

The markings on his chest look more like an Atlantean Tribal marking than Kree, to me.

Also, the Sakaaran. Just because they made an action figure of him does not mean they exist in the MCU. When toy companies make action figure lines for movies, they almost ALWAYS include a couple characters that don't necessarily appear in the movie, or in any of their sequels. This is nothing new. I don't think that saying a Sakaaran action figure is made is proof of anything.

Now, Guardians of the Galaxy takes place in space and I'm sure we'll see a lot of alien races in it, even in the background, so I also wouldn't be surprised to see one of them in a scene, even if they don't have anything to do with what is happening. Kind of like all the aliens in the Cantina scene in Star Wars.

Nice job breaking it all down. It's a Kree though. I think the goal is to bring it all together, not splinter it further apart, which most of those theories would do.

I'd love to see someone do a similar breakdown on all the possibilities for The Clairvoyant. Top 10 possibilities in order, I'd say:

High Evolutionary
The Leader
Grim Reaper
Libra
Alexander Pierce
MODOK
Scorpio
Arnim Zola
Baron Von Strucker
Red Skull

Also, just because Ronan is in this, does not mean they will make him a Kree.

We all know that the MCU is all about mixing the 616 and Ultimate worlds to make some kind of mash-up universe. In the Ultimate comics, Ronan the Accuser is NOT a Kree. He is the son of Thanos. I believe they will go with this version considering Ronan is the villain, and Thanos is said to play a part in it.

I think that the orb that Star Lord is stealing at the beginning of the trailer is one of the Infinity Stones and Thanos sends Ronan (his son) to collect it for him

@ Pigdango

I highly doubt MODOK is the clairvoyant. If they jump that shark, the general audience would laugh and not take it seriously.

@CorndogBurglar: Ronan is confirmed as Kree - http://www.comicbooktherapy.com/james-gunn-confirms-ronan-accuser-will-kree-158617, and Sakaraans are confirmed as a substitute for the Badoon, which James Gunn wanted to use but couldn't because Marvel doesn't have the rights - http://www.unleashthefanboy.com/movies/marvel-studios-lost-right-one-biggest-alien-villains/90247

He's deffinitely a Kree.

I bet he's not Kree. I would put money on that.

Sorry man, I wasn't aware of those things. You should have put those links and explanations in your artice, man! Those are much stronger arguments for why they exist in the MCU than saying they made a toy of one.

@ Morte

Yeah man, If the Antman movie ends up being what they've been saying it will be for all these years, then I could totally see MODOK being the villain in that too. Its really the only film that MODOK might actually work in.

And lets be honest, it isn't like Ant-Man has a great rogues gallery...if any. I know Egg Head is one his villains, but come on, really?
Pigdango
Pigdango - 3/7/2014, 9:19 AM
@Corndog I hope you're right about MODOK. If they ever try to use him it won't be in the form we all know, he'll be some goofy computer program or something. That would be worse in a way.

How is arnim zolah more acceptable then modok? At this point zola would have to be in robot for with his face on the chest and all that. I think both characters are good but in terms of either one looking silly on tv to the general audience (I hate that term) it's a coin flip. They both present a challenge in bringing them to screen. I'll say this, marvel has not been shy about doing that. I mean Groot. Seriously, Groot. That tells me that if they wanted modok or zola they would eat hesitate to use them. Especially since we got the easter egg in Cap1. I don't think it's either of them though. I wouldn't be shocked if it comes as a complete surprise, like Deathlock did.

What if the only thing keeping that blue guy from regenerating
Is that the chemical is being pumped out of him. Now that the
Bunker has exploded. most likely the hoses that connected him
To the pumping system have been destroyed. What if... The blue
Guy is regenerating as we speak...or type.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/7/2014, 10:22 AM
@ Sikwon

I don't know how you can say that. Arnim Zola would just be a robot body with a TV screen on its chest showing a face.

MODOK is a giant floating head with tiny little arms and legs. He's completely ridiculous looking.

Lets see, Arnim Zola could be made to look cool, while still looking like the source material. Just look.

Having seen that, how in the world would you be able to make MODOK cool? Even a redesign like this is just a little too corney and ridiculous, I think.

Plus, MODOK already had a movie about him made. Check it out.

Kind of like the wolverine movie. Sliver samurai robot draining logans healing ability.
Once the robot was destroyed, wolverine gets his healing factor back.
I know...silver samurai was a metal suit, but you get my drift.

@Nova YOUR ALIVE!!! Awesome!

I think there's another possibility. The Blue Guy is Skye's alien father. That would make Skye Abigail Brand. Joss Whedon created Agent Brand, she's a member of SWORD (one of the most important), and she has unexplained superpowers. She's also a Fury supporter(good for the SHIELD breakdown that will happen), and she hates Maria Hill(imagine for a moment a Skye and Hill catfight!)

But the Kree explaination is the simplest. And the chest symbol makes is the best possibility.

Great write up @ProfX

Silver Samurai didn't take Logan's healing. That was the little robot that Viper put in him that attached to his heart. Remember him pulling it out while Yukio fought Shingen during the best scene in the movie?

They took his adamantium, not his healing factor. He got his healing back before the incredible ninja battle.

I thought i saw little drill bits drilling into his knuckles, and logan started to
Age and the old man started to get younger.

And yes.. That ninja battle with the arrows in his back... Awesome!

@ Dumegg

Great theory. Can't wait to see if it's true.

@Merc

The little robot on his heart was to slow his healing factor down. The suit drilled into Logans open bone slots to drill the marrow out that healed him and contained his healing factor. Kinda like stem cells. They weren't trying to steal his Adamantium, they were trying to get to his cells.
wookiefit

I still think a version of Hulk makes sense to. Why can't he be a pre-version of A-Bomb.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 3/7/2014, 11:06 AM
No, they took his adamantium. That's why Logan killed him with his bone claws...

And when Logan loses his adamantium, his healing factor grows stronger...
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 3/7/2014, 11:08 AM
Maybe I'm wrong about what the drills were taking. Since the Samurai cut off his claws. But it didn't take away his healing factor. He would've died from that if they removed it.

Have you seen the unrated cut? With the extended Ninja battle? And Yukio driving that massive snowblower type thing?
Dumegg

No, i have not. I have the Blu-ray. But its only got one version on it.
Also, it doesnt have the extra scene with wolverines suit in the

Download the extended version. The ninja fight becomes incredible!

@wook
Two things...

1. Awesome pic.
2. Remember in Wolverine, Noburo said that Yashida spent years stockpiling Adamantium, thinking it was the secret to Logan's healing and longevity.

I was thinking that to earlier with Dumegg. They have no problem changing origin stories, so why not. She could become Ms. Marvel.
