ARMOR WARS: James Spader Rumored To Finally Return As Ultron In Upcoming War Machine-Led Movie

James Spader first played Ultron in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and if a new rumour is to be believed, the actor will reprise his villainous MCU role in the upcoming Armor Wars movie. Check it out!

In the comic books, Ultron was created by Hank Pym and ended up becoming one of the Marvel Universe's greatest villains. No matter how many times he was defeated, the sinister android found a way to return and even earned the ultimate victory in the post-apocalyptic "Age of Ultron" timeline.

Ultron even served as a cosmic baddie for a time, matching wits with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Taking all of that into account, it's hard not to feel like he might have been wasted in the MCU. Despite being a fantastic villain in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, making him a one-and-done baddie closes the door on all manner of storytelling opportunities. Then again, we never did see The Vision kill his "father."

Now, with Vision Quest and Armor Wars on the horizon, theories have been running rampant for a while that Ultron could return in the not-too-distant future.

According to information obtained by moderators on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, James Spader is indeed set to reprise the role of Ultron in Marvel Studios' Armor Wars movie.

Original plans called for that to be a Disney+ TV series, with the decision later made that it was a big enough story for theaters. Ultron's return sounds about right then and it's incredibly exciting to think about the many ways he could factor into this story.

Ultron is fresh in all of our minds following the events of What If...? as he was a threat to the entire Multiverse there. After successfully inhabiting what would become The Vision's body in the MCU, he acquired the Infinity Stones and became aware of The Watcher's existence. Unleashing war on the Multiverse, he was eventually stopped by Captain Carter and her team.

Only time will tell whether Spader really is coming back as Ultron, but we're keeping everything crossed it eventually happens.

Good! He could be able to hide for years, Tech is in everything. I always doubted Vision taking out the final Ultron. He could have been hiding in a fridge ffs haha

I hope so, one of the biggest mistakes Marvel Studios have made is wasting James Spader.

Loved Ultron. Thought he was a great villain, and Spader has a naturally creepy voice.

Think it would make more sense for him to show up in Vision Quest, but Armor Wars would be cool too. Just doubt that it'll be in May 2025 like that ''leak'' claims.

Don't waste Spader, bring him back. That we haven't heard his voice since would have to be because they would have to pay him; same reason they seem tentatively trying to avoid showing Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quickilver at all.

I'm down. AOU is still probably top 5 MCU movies for me, and he was great.

This is good to hear but I'll put a downer on it.

Ironheart will probably be in it.

The trailer to Age of Ultron is still one of my favorites. That final shot of him saying "there are no strings... on me." was truly chilling.

When you think about Phase 4 and the start of phase 5,Avengers:Age Of Ultron seems really good.

I liked it for The Hulk and it introduced us to Quicksilver,Scarlet Witch and Vision.

@marvel72 - I always liked it better than part one, I truly feel like each one was better than its predecessor, and that’s a good thing because part one was fantastic. But part two, oh man, just for the party scene alone! But I also loved Hulkbuster vs Hulk.

I may be in a group of one here, but I do not think there is a bad movie with RDJ’s Tony/IM, not one.

@marvel72 - see guys? It ain’t just me. Good frikkin movie. As far as I’m concerned, the Thor stuff set up Ragnarok and IW really well

@TheWalkingCuban - Agreed. I prefer AOU over Avengers

I definitely think if Ultron was taken a bit more seriously, people wouldn't complain nearly as much

@QuiGonsGhost - great villain, not top 5, probably top 10 (in MCU)

@TheWalkingCuban - yep. And as you said in an above post, the movie does set up Phase 3 really well
- Avengers creating their own consequences (Civil War)
- Infinity Stones
- Everyone's past/future sort of catching up to them
- Wakanda and Vibranium
- New Avengers

@QuiGonsGhost - boy I remember we thought dang, how could they not tie up the winter soldier thread, and how you Gon have civil war without hulk and Thor?

Boy when Civil War dropped 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

The mother load. Holy crap that movie was good!

I really like Age of Ultron, and I loved Spader's performance, so this is a HUGE W in my opinion.

The only great thing about Ultron in AoU was Spader's voice. The overall lip moving performance was terrible! If he returns we need to see Earths Mightiest Heroes version of Ultron not the Whedon-y version. Please stop settling for less yall! please!

I can imagine Ultron with a new look inspired by War Machine.

The "mouth" of the armor makes me think of Ultron and I like it.

I’m a massive Spader fan (and Whedon), but I was so let down by AoU. It was so obviously chopped down it was ridiculous. It should have been 3 hours long to let the dark scenes breathe. Instead everything was shortened and rushed and nearly all of the impact was lost. F you Feige.

Guess I'm the only one who didn't like the fact that Ultron sounded exactly like James Spader. Never once read a comic with Ultron in it and thought "Man...if they ever make a movie with this supreme robot in it, it should definitely have a completely human voice." I wish they would have distorted it some or something. Just...Ultron opening his mouth and normal James Spader voice falling out did zilch for me and completely knocked a decent character down a bunch of pegs.

All this talk of adamantium gives me hope he could have a new unbreakable body or at Least a new vibranium one.

I can imagine when White Vision's memories were restored he got a glimpse of Ultron and went on a Vision Quest to seek out more about him.
