Netflix and Marvel Television's Daredevil was definitely darker in tone and content than what we're used to seeing from the MCU. However, it still came as a surprise when we heard Daredevil: Born Again will be rated TV-MA on Disney+.
Recently, there have been rumblings that Bob Iger's return as Disney CEO might have led to a change in approach, with the eighteen-episode series instead set to receive the same family-friendly rating as the rest of the MCU offerings on the streaming service.
Now, though, scooper Daniel Richtman has claimed that Daredevil: Born Again will likely still be TV-MA even after Bob Chapek's ousting. Former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has previously shared his support for that approach to the Man Without Fear on television, while Charlie Cox seemed on board with the idea earlier this year as well.
"I'm such a fan of everything they've done so far, I wouldn't underestimate them at all," he said. "So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do it where it feels totally in keeping with everything we've done. And maybe there's a little less blood, maybe there's a little whatever, but I back them to do it."
We'll see what happens, but have a feeling the show might eventually land somewhere between PG-13 and TV-MA. After all, we've just seen Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and rumours continue to persist that he'll next appear in Spider-Man 4. Then again, adventures that are targeted at both age groups could make 'ol Hornhead something of a trailblazer in the MCU.
Whatever the case may be, it's an exciting time to be a fan of this character, and it finally feels like he's set to receive the attention he deserves on the big and small screens.
