DAREDEVIL: Find Out How Matt Murdocks's Costume Will Evolve Towards Red
Though Matt Murdock's crime-fighting duds will start out as his original black bodysuit from the comics, we know he'll eventually sport the better-known red costume. Showrunner Steven DeKnight outlines the subtle evolution the outfit will go through in the Netflix series to get to that point.
Some fans were disappointed that Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil series wasn't going to feature the character's most popular costume from the comics right off the baton, but Steven DeKnight is adamant that the black outfit (which Murdock did sport initially in Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.'s Daredevil: Man Without Fear anyway) makes more sense for the show's real-world setting... at first at any rate.
While chatting with Comics Continuum (via MCU Exchange), DeKnight explains how the suit will evolve over the course of the show, until we finally reach the point that people will readily accept the more outlandish look. Expect a few variations of the black costume before we see those red horns in any capacity!
"He always wore a black mask that was tied in the back. We went through a lot of different versions and did a lot of R&D before settling on something. If you watch very closely, you'll see the outfit evolve subtly into what we call the black ninja suit. The mask changes. He starts wearing protective pads. Eventually it morphs into the classic suit, because he wouldn't be Daredevil without it. Getting there is part of the fun. The idea was to back the story up to the point before Matt is Daredevil. Then we could take him to a place where some version of the red suit works in a grounded world. The solution is very exciting and makes complete sense."
