After a direct to video movie and two failed big screen outings, the future was looking bleak for Frank Castle despite the fact that the rights had reverted to Marvel Studios. It was hard to figure out where an R-Rated hero could possibly fit into a world which is owned by Disney, but thank goodness for the violent corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which Daredevil lives in.
That's the perfect place for the vigilante, and fans had been speculating that The Punisher might show up there eventually. However, that made the casting of Fury and The Wolf of Wall Street's Jon Bernthal no less surprising. Talking to ABC News recently, he had this to say about playing Frank Castle in the series. "Oh man, it’s just a huge honor to play the part and that’s all I can say about that. I’m very thrilled and we haven’t started yet, but I’m very much looking forward to it."
Marvel describes this take on The Punisher as a vigilante who aims to clean up Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results. That sounds just about perfect, but do you think Bernthal is the right man for the job? He certainly sounds pretty enthusiastic about it anyway!
