The third episode of Marvel's The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, "The Power Broker," saw Sam and Bucky pay a visit to Zemo in order to find out what he knew about The Flag Smashers, and it's probably safe to say things didn't quite go the way fans were expecting.
Zemo ended up joining the heroes on their mission after Buck broke him out of prison, and we saw different side to the cold, calculating Captain America: Civil War villain. One moment, which has since become a widely shared meme, saw the Baron let loose and engage in a spot of fist-pumping in a Madripoor nightclub.
During in an interview with EW, Daniel Brühl revealed that he actually improvised this scene, and they filmed more than just the one brief shot that made it into the episode.
"It's so hysterical. [That moment] was improvised when I saw the crowd dancing, going loco," said the actor. "I felt the beat and was like, Zemo has been sitting in a dodgy German prison cell for years. So, he needs to let off some steam and show his moves. Let's go for it! I enjoyed so much the reaction of Anthony and Sebastian looking at me. Still, I was 100 percent sure that they would cut it out [of the show]. I was really surprised and happy that they kept it. It was a long dance. There's more to it, but they cut this little moment."
Brühl was also asked if he could drop any hints about Zemo's "endgame," but said he'd rather not ruin the surprise. He did comment on that last minute cameo from Florence Kasumba and what Ayo's involvement might mean for his character, however.
"Oh yeah. These are very intimidating warriors who are after me. As much as I enjoyed me, as in Daniel, seeing Florence again and talking to her — the only other German-speaking actor on the set — for Zemo, this is trouble. He should better watch out."
In related news, artist Andy Park has taken to Twitter to share the concept design he created for Civil War that ended up influencing the fully costumed Zemo in TFATWS.
