The first sneak peek for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier confirmed that Sam Wilson won't immediately suit up as the new Captain America, and that the U.S. Government will choose someone else to wield Steve Rogers' shield. Wyatt Russell is playing John F. Walker (the "F." part has only just come to light), but he won't be known as U.S. Agent.
That's a moniker his comic book counterpart has always held, and what fans have been referring to him as for months now. However, the toy packaging below confirms that he is indeed the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America, making him only the second person to hold that mantle.
Sam will almost certainly be the third by the time The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's final episode streams, but it's possible Marvel Studios will decide to head down a different, unexpected path.
No premiere date has been revealed for the series beyond it being slated to arrive on Disney+ sometime in 2021 after shooting was delayed as a result of COVID.
