HAWKEYE Concept Art Reveals An Unused Costume For Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova

Some newly revealed Hawkeye concept art shows off an unused costume for Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova. It's a badass take on the character, and vastly different to what we saw in the Disney+ series...

Hawkeye managed to fit a lot of story into its six episodes, including the return of Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova following her introduction in Black Widow. Looking to make Clint Barton pay for his role in Natasha Romanoff's death, the assassin ended up taking aim at both him and Kate Bishop, though an unlikely friendship formed with the latter that we hope will continue to be explored.

By the time all was said and done, Yelena forgave Clint, but when she was attempting to take the archer down, the Black Widow was decked out in some formidable-looking spy gear which paid homage to her comic book roots.

This concept art by Josh Nizzi shows a completely different take on Yelena for her MCU return. "Here is an unused look I did for Yelena in Hawkeye," he says in the Instagram post below. "I was combining New York wet winter and tactical wear." It could have worked, and is a cool design it might not hurt to revisit down the line, but we are happy with what we got!

As well as that tactical gear, Yelena had a new Black Widow-inspired costume that wouldn't look out of place with the rest of the Avengers when she hopefully assembles alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Check out the concept art below:

Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park has also shared some of his amazing work on Hawkeye. It may look familiar, but unlike the version of this piece we previously saw, it uses the likeness of Hailee Steinfeld (remember, she was always Marvel Studios' top choice for the role).

Now thats bland , perfect fit for the character in general.

@Malatrova234 - Imagine thinking Yelena is 'bland,' especially compared to Natasha...

@SerKurtWagner - Did you see the bland streaming movie ofthe week Yelena debuted in?

SerKurtWagner - 2/7/2022, 11:12 PM
@Malatrova234 - Not sure what the overall quality of the movie has to do with the quality of Pugh's performance as Yelena, especially now that she's appeared in a whole separate project.

Iron Man 2 was far worse than Black Widow, but Rockwell as Hammer was far from "bland."

I sometimes feel totally alone in my utter contempt for Yelena. She's obnoxious, and Pugh's performance is so aggressively cartoonish. She sounds like she's trying to kill Rocky & Bullwinkle. It doesn't help that she feels like the most cynically obvious of all the Avengers replacements. Oh, Natasha has a sister she never mentioned? Even though her story is literally "I was always alone until I found this family in the Avengers?"

I dread the future.

I sometimes, specifically in this comment section, feel totally alone in my “she’s hilarious and a great fit for the MCU” thoughts

@TheWalkingCuban - I love ya buddy, but Hawkeye is something I am still trying to forget. They were. Just. Terrible. Here's hoping a villain comes along and destroys them ALL. Just to bring out the OG Avengers. High Evolutionary? Kang? Masters of Evil? Anything but the continuation of estrovariants.

@VictorAlonzo - I’m not trying to forget it I already forgot it, but she was the highlight in that show. That makes sense? She was the highlight on black widow as well. Two bland avengers got replaced by the same person LOL I know they didn’t, a different little girl took over Hawkeye but you get my point. Or is it i that get your point? Because now I think I do!

@TheWalkingCuban -Don't worry, we aren't alone. Literally anywhere else on the internet, she's very popular. I've never seen hate like this for her before, don't know where it's coming from.

@VictorAlonzo - Ah, I understand now. It's just sexism. Should have seen that coming.

@SerKurtWagner - yeah I thought even here the consensus was she’s a great character. They’re acting like she’s the girl that took the guy’s role. Naw, that was the other girl. This is the girl that replaced a girl.

I do wonder how their model was before Hailee Steinfield, because they definitely had someone else in mind (think I remember something about Taissa Farmiga)

I never even got to Yelena showing up in Hawkeye. Couldn’t get very far into the show. I’m not gonna say it was bad, just wasn’t for me. Clearly. Very, very Disney.

@Jackraow21 - It was practically directly lifted from the tone and style of Fraction and Aja's run, but okay...

@SerKurtWagner - Well maybe that run wasn’t for me either then I guess.

@Jackraow21 - You're missing out on one of the best contemporary comic runs, then, but to each their own.

I was so confused about where this hate was coming from until I remembered there's a lot of people on this site that REALLY don't like women.
VictorAlonzo
VictorAlonzo - 2/9/2022, 1:39 PM
@SerKurtWagner - Geez, Nightcrawler. Give it a rest. Turn Storm, Rouge, Felicia Hardy, Jean Grey, Jubilee, into men, and I will have the same response. They've taken Thor, Captain America, HULK (I actually like SHE-HULK, so win), Hawkeye, Iron Man, AND possibly Black Panther and turned them into women. This is not hate, it's a desire to see accurate depictions. Repeating the same comment to different individuals is crass at minimum. My desire to see 18 yr old + boxers boxing does not mean I hate kids. It means I have a preference. I'd like to think that's still okay. These days, I wonder...
SerKurtWagner
SerKurtWagner - 2/9/2022, 3:16 PM
@VictorAlonzo - You are literally hating on these characters purely because they are women and you think they're "stealing" roles from men.

And for the millionth time - no, your hypothetical counter is not the same. Because - FIRST - all those characters you listed are individuals, not titles and - SECOND - taking roles from historically marginalized populations is NOT the same as opening new roles up to them.
VictorAlonzo
VictorAlonzo - 2/9/2022, 4:53 PM
@SerKurtWagner - Fine. Open new roles. Don't take away from a wheel that rolls. Create new wheels.
