IRON FIST Star Finn Jones Wants To Return As Danny Rand; JESSICA JONES' Krysten Ritter "Ready" To Join MCU

With Marvel Studios making Netflix's MCU TV shows "canon," Iron Fist star Finn Jones has confirmed he'd like to return as Danny Rand. Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter is also keen to reprise her role...

Marvel Studios made Marvel Television's Netflix projects "canon" shortly before Echo launched on Disney+ earlier this year. While we still expect the studio to pick and choose which characters and story beats they reference in the MCU, several familiar faces have already been enlisted.

Now, as we wait to see the likes of Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Vincent D'Onofrio (The Kingpin), and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) do their thing in next March's Daredevil: Born Again, the actors who played Netflix's Iron Fist and Jessica Jones have expressed an interest in joining them.

During a recent interview with The Nerd Shepherd, Danny Rand actor Finn Jones shared his belief that there's still "a lot of room for growth with that character." He added, "I think I'm in a place professionally where I would like to continue to grow with that character."

As for what he'd like that to look like, Jones said he remains eager to star in a Heroes for Hire series co-starring Mike Colter's Luke Cage.

"I would love to see the chemistry between me and Mike again. It was always fantastic. I think those are really interesting characters to put together," he teased. "If they would bring me and Mike back to do a Heroes For Hire TV series, I think it would be the right way."

There's been chatter online about Marvel Studios introducing a new Iron Fist in the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda animated series. Given how poorly reviewed Iron Fist was, Jones getting another chance to play the hero seems unlikely.

Many fans would also prefer to see an Asian actor play Iron Fist, with Lin Lie a strong contender to take Danny's place in the MCU.

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter reiterated past comments that she's eager to play the hard-nosed private detective again.

"One hundred percent [I would return as Jessica Jones]," the actress told the trade. "I am ready, and I would, of course, be there in a heartbeat. She's a character who I absolutely love, and she was a part of my life for so long."

"I played that character for five years, and she's a character who's very important to me and many women and men. So if the opportunity calls, I may or may not have an extra jacket already [Laughs]"

Jessica showing up in Daredevil: Born Again does make sense; that's already been rumoured to be the case with it previously reported that she had been lined up to appear in Echo before Marvel Studios' plans changed.

Would you like to see these versions of Iron Fist and Jessica Jones appear in a future MCU movie or TV show?

Think it would be fun to see special presentations about Heroes For Hire and Daughters of the Dragon, but that's enough. No need to get full shows out of it

Reboot Luke Cage and Danny Rand after Secret Wars. Bring Quentin in for the Luke Cage series.

I’d be very happy to them both back and all the supporting cast members. IronFist struggled due to a very poor script and a reluctance to embrace the costume.

@Spike101 - Pretty much agree. Also Jones was not given enough prep time to actually make his Martial Arts skills look good. I'm one who also wants them all to come back. The potential is definitely there, just need to get some good scripts out of the writers.

@Spike101 - I KNOW comic purists will come at me for this, and I get it...

However I would be cool with keeping going with Colleen as the new Iron Fist and keep going with Danny as a sort of Two Gun Kid with the added Iron Fist aspect moving forward with the cast as is.

Sure the Netflix series had a lot of issues but with better scripts and more time for Finn to train up I'd be cool with that rather than a recast with an Asian version of Rand cos for me better to have a legacy version Iron Fist than changing the race of Danny.

I would however be OK if they do continue from the series but get someone to replace Jones in the role IF they are not doing a FULL reboot having opted to make the Netflix shows canon (if they hadn't done that and just made the returning DD cast Variants I would have deffo been fine with a FULL reboot brought in through a second Shang Chi film first).

@Spike101 - Yep. He's a victim of a badly written show. His acting wasn't bad. And he's scenes with Cage were actually pretty good. I say the reboot his storyline and give him another chance with better material

@Apophis71 - I don't think it is worth pursuing, but I agree it seemed like Iron Fist finally stumbled into an interesting storyline just before it ended.

Would really like to see a street level meets mutants story arc with Danny protecting some mutant kids without full control on their powers, yet. They've hurt/killed when their powers kicked in and are now hunted by various factions (including police).

And I'd like the teaser with his new powers cleared up. Perhaps in Flashbacks, as so much time has passed since.

@Tidaltree - same in terms of clearing up his powers

I really wanted to know how he got them back and it was suppose to be revealed in S3 but oh well.

@Matchesz - I know some have issues with that but I FAR prefered Jessica's take on her character than I did of Finn's Danny so would be cool with that. I get ALL the issues with the series, I enjoyed it to a degree but it wasn't good IMO, I get why many will have issue with it but I am OK with this version of Danny Rand moving forward with better scripts and more time for the actor to train.

However, also would not be against a FULL reboot of the character either, just would rather have that option than going with an Asian version of Danny Rand. The Iron Fist is a built in legacy character, as in LOTS of different characters would be Iron Fist over the generations so get the white saviour trope is questionable but also don't see the point of changing from the source when you can just have a new Iron Fist post Danny instead (even if the ideal would have not been to make the Netflix Iron Fist canon and have a full source accurate reboot instead).

Honestly , I would love if both returned (though I’m sure I’m in the minority here for Finn Jones).

I personally think Finn proved that he wasn’t the issue imo but moreso the writing of the character to an extent and the production management not giving him enough time to train , exercise etc.

He was real good in LC S2 (his peak imo) and better in IF S2 aswell as he kept developing and being written better.

Plus , dude is in great shape now!!.

@TheVisionary25 - The writing and not giving him enough time to train for the first season was deffo the problem, why for all the issues I would be OK giving Finn Jones as second go at the character to prove how good he could have been but if keeping Netflix canon I'm fine with this version of Danny.

@LSHF - I was never that sold on solo Iron Fist comics, they weren't BAD but wasn't a fan, but the pairing of Luke and Danny always worked well for me (and likewise wasn't a fan of solo Luke Cage but loved Heroes for Hire).
LSHF
LSHF - 6/26/2024, 8:31 AM
@Apophis71 - I've never read any of them, but knew of their existence, enjoyed how the two worked together in the Netflix series, and it seemed that's what the show eventually going to do.

Sound's good to me!
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/26/2024, 9:08 AM
@LSHF - To be clear, I never read ALL of them, was mostly depending on loans for comics in the 70's and 80's so probably some GOOD solo runs out there, just wasn't sold on them enough to go searching but DID realy like the Heroes for Hire comics I read.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the UK (look for the HUGE forest on a map of Northumberland, my home *town* was on the edge of that, population 600 and think that included the sheep) getting hold of anything other than the top sellers (for the UK) like Spider-Man, Xmen and Avengers outside of those Marvel comics primarily made for the UK market wasn't easy and didn't get THAT much pocket money when I went to High School in Hexham where I was able to buy way more titles :D

However yeh, when Danny and Luke paired up on the latters series on Netflix felt in many ways that brought out the best of both actors/characters.

In regards to Krysten , I hope we do see her again sooner rather then later…

I always liked her in the role aswell as her version of Jessica regardless of how the show itself turned out for some (personally found enjoyment in the later seasons even though S1 remained the strongest imo).

@TheVisionary25 - Hot take, but I actualy liked Krysten take on Jessica over Charlies take on DD, and I loved the DD series and Cox in that role...

...just a shame they dropped the ball on stories after a BRILLIANT season one of JJ (which I put above all other single seasons of any Netflix shows even if DD took the rest of the top four slots thus better overall).

I hope they bring back Danny and Luke and finally make them Heroes for Hire, I'd be fine with them keeping the same actors and giving them a chance with better material. Also given some of the mixed feelings around the Iron Fist character I wouldn't mind if Danny doesn't have his powers and is a bit more of a Daredevil type vigilante who just has amazing combat skills and for a different Iron Fist from the comics to be the one with powers in the MCU. Maybe even have all 3 of those characters team up.

But yeah Krysten Ritter needs to come back as Jessica Jones. Such a badass character and such a great portrayal even when the writing went downhill after season 1.

Krysten Ritter was fantastic as Jessica Jones. I'd love to see her back. Danny Rand, regardless of who plays him, should first show up as a side character in Shang Chi 2

Disney would never do a white Iron Fist again. If they use him, he’ll be a POC and they might gender swap him and make him a lesbian while they’re at it.

@HAILHYDRA - Bar the Lesbian bit Netflix already did all of that anyway so...

...some titles are always built in legacy types, there is always a King or Queen of England and same goes with titles like Black Panther or Iron Fist so get folk wanting THE Danny Rand as THE Iron Fist but...

...it will be what it will be and if it's good most won't care if not fully source accurate.
