Luke Cage A.K.A.. Powerman Marvel's new Netflix series will feature a former convict. Although he was falsely accused while Luke Cage was in prison he was experimented on, giving him super human strength, and unbreakable skin, leaving him hell bent on kicking ass in the mean streets of Harlem.
The role of Luke Cage was given to Michael Colter. The series is beginning to film and Marvel has already announced some of it's pretty impressive cast. It will be starring Alfre Woodard and Mahershala Ali just to name a couple. I won't pretend to know everything there is to know about Luke Cage and his comic book, those of you who know me on here, you know I am more of a Captain America and Black Panther guy, but Luke Cage did appear in my favorite Black Panther comic written by Reginald Hudlin titled 'Bad Mutha'.
In the comic King T'Challa is fighting a fake ass Puff Daddy in the middle of a New York City nightclub and he winds up linking up with Cage who was working as Puff Daddy's bodyguard, later Cage tells Black Panther that he's his idol! shit was classic...very underrated issue! Oh and I would love to see that in the Luke Cage Netflix series but I doubt it, but here are some things I think we could and should see.
Luke Cage is a badass character, I mean real tough guy! Plus he is based in the ghetto. I told you earlier the series is based in Harlem in real time, so there must be a real crime element and some real threats for a man with super powers to beat up on. Let's start shall we? Comic book Villains gotta have those he is a comic book character. Now if Marvel wanted to break some ground and this is Netflix let's give them some of the ghettos in New York! Now you can get to the Street Gangs, Drug Dealers, Killers, Junkies, Prostitutes, Politics, Crooked Cops, Graffiti, Subway, Hip Hop, Punk Rockers, Skate Boarders, and Mobsters. New York is a big melting pot, Whites, Blacks, Latinos, and Asians. This show could be like the Wire mixed with Law and Order with a big badass black Superman smacking the bad guys around! EPIC!! I mean we see mob guys in the Punisher or random bad guys on Daredevil, but I mean like the Jamaican posse coming at Luke Cage. The show can play like scenes from the Public Enemies music video 'Night of the Living Base heads', and I mean they can really let Luke Cage beat the shit out of bad guys ...They have to! He's a brawler, no weapons, just breaking Jaws and body slamming chumps! They can also show the good side and the inspirational things like the hard working parents who try to raise kids in tough neighborhoods, or like the school kids trying to make something of themselves, you know the real glimmers of hope amidst the madness. Who knows, this Luke Cage series might inspire the hero in you! It could happen! Or in closing Marvel can take the safe route and let Luke Cage drive his motorcycle around and beat the crap out of some middle age generic bad guys he catches trying to make a deal in a shipping yard lol! Please leave your comments!
Peace!
