We recently reported that Ms. Marvel was scheduled to commence production in Atlanta, Georgia this November (whether that's still the plan remains to be seen), and Marvel is currently in the process of rounding up the main cast of the Disney+ series.

Kamala Khan is obviously a priority, but The Illuminerdi reckons a couple of young actors are also being sought to fill the roles of two supporting characters fans of the hero should be very familiar with.

"Omar" is a Pakistani American in his mid-to-late 20’s, a practicing Muslim and a self-proclaimed wiser older brother. He is also listed as modern and spirited. "Willow" is a 16 to 20 year old American teenager of Turkish, Moroccan, or Arab decent. Active in student organizations with a love of being in charge, she is described as a hijabi Muslim, woke, popular, stylish and smart.

Since the character's real identities are almost always hidden behind code-names in these casting calls, these two are most likely Kamala’s older brother Aamir, and best friend Nakia Bahadir. There are other possibilities, of course, but they seem like the closest fit.

A previous report indicated that both Red Dagger and Kamran will also factor into the show, but we haven't had any solid updates since.

What do you guys make of this? Are you looking forward to Ms. Marvel? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Most of this cast's gonna have to be relative new-comers since I can't really think of many well-known south asian muslim actors in Hollywood outside of Riz Ahmed

So the MCU is going all in on the woke train...shame

@LameLuka - By probably faithfully adapting one of the more popular new superheroes of recent years?

@LameLuka - I havent read much of her stories, but seems like she is one of the more liked, recently created diverse heroes.

@LameLuka - you just outed yourself as a prick, to put it nicely. Congratulations, now we know to expect little of substance going forward from you.

Ms. Marvel and Star Girl are probably going to be the shows most compared next year.

@dracula - Or maybe we don't have to compare two shows just for having young female leads?
dracula
dracula - 8/10/2020, 1:51 PM
@tmp3 - Sure, but fact is people love to compare. While Luke Cage was on people compared it and Black Lightning, people compared agents of shield and arrow.

Its just something fans do, most of the time its just part of the fun. No different than comparing sport teams

OT: Rumors going around that Watchmen characters will be in Injustice 3... despite the book being a take-down of the kinds of tropes that a fighting game represents. Kind of crazy how much DC doesn't understand the book they keep milking content from.

@tmp3 - Weird how much they keep using them the past few years. Like seriously they went decades without using them, then they did Before Watchmen, then a few years later Rebirth and the tv show. Hopefully they never try to do something with V For Vendetta

@dracula - Well, the TV show was a masterpiece. Everything else was kind of shitty and just used the iconography of the book while missing the actual point.

@dracula - That isn't a coincidence. Paul Levitz was in charge of DC for years and it was basically his decision to keep Watchmen as a standalone work. They could have done Watchmen stuff anytime, but aside from the film rights which were sold back in the 80s, Levitz was adamant that no sequels, prequels or crossovers would be made. He left in 2009 and Before Watchmen came out in 2012...

Wait, so you’re telling me the Ms. Marvel show is going to have Ms. Marvel’s supporting characters in it? Why would they do that?

I’m all for Kamala Khan. She is definitely one of the highlights of the Marvels Avengers game.

As a British-Pakistani I couldn't be mkre excited to see Western-Pakistanis potrayed on screen (as in the western hemisphere not West Pakistan...its complicated haha) It's not that often that we're potrayed as heroes on the big screen. Especially in the United States. It's also refreshing to see that Kamala Khan is actually an engaging character whose story arcs are well written. I'm curious to see how Disney will approach the muslim side of the character. The MCU doesn't really fixate on religion so I imagine that this will only be briefly addressed. I'm all for that to be honest. No reason to get religious for this show as its only a minor aspect of the characters.

Anyway this is gonna be great.

Stay safe you yanks! 🇺🇸
