SECRET INVASION Star Samuel L. Jackson Teases "Old School [Nick] Fury" With Intriguing New Image

Secret Invasion is currently shooting in the UK, and star Samuel L. Jackson has now taken to social media to share an intriguing behind-the-scenes look at Nick Fury as he prepares to go "old school."

A lot of photos from the set of Secret Invasion have found their way online in recent weeks, with Nick Fury looking vastly different to how we remember in all of them. Rocking a beard and no eyepatch, it appears the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director has been through a lot since heading into outer space.

Now, Samuel L. Jackson has taken to Instagram to reveal a far more traditional look for the character, teasing plans to tap into his "Old School Fury" persona. We definitely have some questions, though. For starters, why doesn't he have his scar? Fury was clean-shaven when he lost his eye, so it's unlikely these are going to be scenes set prior to his first meeting with Captain Marvel.

It's possible Jackson just took this image prior to his scar makeup being applied, but either way, it seems safe to say we'll be spending some time with a younger Fury in Secret Invasion.

Talos impersonated him for a time in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but him trusting Mysterio ended up causing major problems for Peter Parker. This could be a flashback to that alien's time on Earth (we're sure it wasn't his only screw up) or a chance to revisit Fury's stint in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. The latter could even shed some light on how long the Skrulls have really been infiltrating Earth.

We know so little about Secret Invasion - including how it will tie into the events of The Marvels - that even speculating is difficult at this stage. It doesn't look like the series will be quite as epic as the comic book it's named after, but who knows what surprises Marvel Studios has in store for us with this one.

Secret Invasion is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

Guess Skrull Fury doesn't need the patch and all. Probably Talos not paying attention, which sets in motion a whole chain events that lead to Secret Invasion

Maybe they are going to do flashbacks to suggest Nick Fury has been in Space a lot longer than we thought. Maybe he’s been the Skrull dude in films we didn’t think, like Iron Man 2 or the Avengers

@Twenty23Three - Not sure why a Skrull would go through all the trouble to form The Avengers knowing they were going to try and infiltrate the planet. Why create a team of super powered heroes that could stop you?

@CorndogBurglar - oh I’m not saying it will make sense, I’m saying they might do it for the twist value haha

Still can’t believe this man is 73. Makes me wonder how long they’re keeping him around in the MCU

They need to bring back Hasselhoff for a cameo as old school Fury. Clooney would make a great old school Fury aswell.

@micvalpro - Clooney would’ve been great

I remember a limited series in the comics that told the origin story of Sam Jackson's Nick Fury and how he actually lost his eye. He was on a mission with Coulson where he was captured and tortured and that was when the eye was lost. Also it turned out that "old school" Fury was actually his biological father. Can't remember the name of that series off-hand, or when it came out, at least 10 years ago if not more, will have to go through my collection of old comics and refresh my memory. Regardless that would have been a bit more believable than what has transpired on screen so far.

@Mugens - weak. I prefer he lost it to a Flerken than allow himself be tortured

@Mugens - God I hated that story. It was so very obviously just Marvel's way of making the comics line up with the movies, when it should really be the other way around.

And his name also happened to be Nick Fury. It was like, "Hey everyone, this is my son. His name is also Nick Fury and he also has an eye patch! He's going to take my place now, so just pretend like he's been here the whole time and I never existed. Kay byyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeee."

@DarthOmega - Now remove his lips and eye like his shirt. And why does the one on his shirt have ears?

Old school? How old school? Hopefully not the boring, weak and clumsy Fury we got from Captain Marvel in the 90s old school.
