The second season of
The Punisher premiered on Netflix this past weekend and, in the closing seconds of the finale, fans were treated to an epic visual of Frank Castle fully adopting the mantle of the Punisher as he guns down a gang, teasing what could be a very comic accurate future for Jon Bernthal's portrayal.
While it seems likely that Netflix will continue to clean house of its Marvel properties, showrunner Steve Lightfoot has already begun planning for a third season, noting that Netflix
hasn't canceled the series... yet. Lightfoot told
ComicBook.com he has a really exciting idea for where to take the show in a third season, revealing they have a whole story in mind that "
Marvel know about and they're also excited about."
I think, the idea I have is very much back in the city. The theme is seeing Frank, now he has fully embraced the mantle of The Punisher, where that takes him and what problems that throws up for him as he follows that path. I can't say much more than that really. But yeah, we're hoping we get the good word and we go ahead and dive back in.
There is one iconic MCU villain in particular that
Lightfoot would like to see appear in the show in the futre:
Kingpin. Frank Castle and Wilson Fisk already have some unfinished business from
Daredevil Season 2, and Lightfoot would love the opportunity to work with Vincent D'Onofrio and explore the comic history of these two characters. Lightfoot would also like to see Charlie Cox's Daredevil reteam with Bernthal's Frank Castle.
Yeah. All those guys are great. Obviously Daredevil and Punisher have a lot of history and story between them in the comic books. So it would be great to dig into some of that. Also villains like the Kingpin who was featured in quite a lot of the Punisher books as well. So it would be fantastic to get some of those guys back into the show if we can make it work.
If The Punisher is renewed for a Season 3, would you be excited to see Frank Castle share the screen with Kingpin and Daredevil again? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
