CAPTAIN CARTER Live-Action Series Rumored To Be In Development At Marvel Studios

Following the character's recent live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a new rumour suggests Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Captain Carter TV series for Disney+...

What If...? kicked off with a stellar episode taking us to a reality where Peggy Carter became the First Avenger instead of Steve Rogers. With that, Captain Carter was born, though we're still a little confused as to why Marvel Studios hasn't given her the "Captain Britain" mantle. Perhaps that's something she'll gain in the live-action Captain Carter series rumoured to be in development?

The DisInsider broke the news, claiming that a show is in the works for Disney+. There's no word on who will write and direct the potential project, though Hayley Atwell would presumably return.

If this becomes a reality, it would be a fantastic female-led series to add to Marvel Studios' current streaming lineup. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness [SPOILER ALERT] killed the Earth-838 Variant of Captain Carter, so we're assuming she wouldn't be the lead of this show. It also seems unlikely that it'll be the animated Variant as her story looks set to continue in What If...?

Whatever the case may be, the Doctor Strange sequel proved just how awesome it would be to see Atwell kicking ass as Peggy, and this would be a major upgrade over ABC's short-lived Agent Carter.

As always, this is just a rumour, and even if Marvel Studios is considering a Captain Carter series, that doesn't mean it will eventually come to fruition. We're still waiting for Kevin Feige and company to make future plans clear, so fingers crossed this makes the cut in the next slate announcement.

Would you be on board with a Captain Carter TV series?

I honestly don’t see this happening. I love the character of agent Carter but we don’t need a whole live action TV Series with her as Captain Carter.

@JonAwesome - yeah. It's just not that different from Steve Roger's cap to warrant much beyond helping to communicate what these alternate dimensions are all about. It's a fairly fun episode of what if but outside of showing up in crossovers there isn't much use in continuing her story.

The What If episode was cool enough, but she didn't leave any impression on me in Strange 2

@tmp3 - I think part of what was janky with the cameos was that they were filmed during Covid, probably never in the same room with each other.

When Atwell has chemistry with someone in a scene, though, I could watch them read the phonebook.

@Spock0Clock - I'm sure she'll be great in the next Mission film, largely because those films as of late have had pretty solid female characters, but this Captain Carter experiment's just completely left me cold I fear. Much like most of Strange 2.

She's not Captain Britain because she's not. The UK government would know that someone uses that name already

Don't think there is the need for a whole show on her, but wouldn't be crazy to complain on possibly 6 hours of Hayley Atwell.

Presumably they haven't given her the Captain Britain mantle because they've got other plans for that character. Having said that, with the multiverse now being a fully realised concept in the MCU there's no reason they couldn't call Peggy Captain Britain in whatever universe she comes from and still have a Captain Britain in the main MCU, whether that's Brian Braddock or whoever else.

If the audience can get on board with there being like 20 different Lokis, 5 different Doctor Stranges, multiple Spider-People across the Spider-verse, and two different versions of Captain Marvel between Carol in the main MCU and Maria in the Illuminati-verse, I'm sure they can get their heads around Peggy being called Captain Britain in one universe and someone else being called that in the main one.

If Hayley Atwell is there I'm more than willing to give it a shot. I make no preassumptions about something that hasn't come to light. If and when it ever comes to be, then I'll decide if it was worth the effort or not.

I do wanna see more of Captain Carter, but only really in What If. That S1 ending of her is a perfect set-up for a What If Steve Rogers became The Winter Soldier episode.

If we get to see Atwell return as Carter in live-action, I kinda wanna see a third Agent Carter season. Could even make that the homewrecker Steve timeline and have them be picked up by the TVA, forcing Carter to become an agent for them.

If she's up for it fine. But that's a crap ton of physical abuse for anyone over 30, much less 40.

Hayley Atwell got into super-soldier shape for the new Mission Impossible movie, so I could see Marvel approaching her for at least that reason.

I never bothered with Agent Carter tbh. If they do it I’m sure it would have fans, just doesn’t sound like the thing for me.

@marvel72 - You know, I dismissed that phrase in the past but it does seem that every new series, and movies are starting to be about female heroes while the male heroes are getting relegated to supporting characters.

So MSheU actually makes sense now.
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/18/2022, 8:34 AM
@SpaceParanoids - It just does my head in,the most popular characters are male, even the female versions of the same character aren't as popular.

Just like in sports people of both sexes watch the male interpretation over the female because its better.

Same goes for comic book characters.

@Mugens - If you consider a $10 million per year loss “better”.

@SpaceParanoids - So by that logic, you're also saying women have been relegated to supporting characters this entire time...

@marvel72 - if you like men, that’s alright but some of us want to see women wear tight superhero suits too.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/18/2022, 11:53 AM
@Tonic24k - Nope, Never said that, but it has been true in many franchises. However, There have been tremendously successful female leads in films and TV shows for decades.

So what was your point again?

@Tonic24k - it's crazy how they get so upset over this. You heard no complaints when we only got male-led stuff. Now they have to share and that upsets them.

I would say that it was a valiant attempt, but, I can't...!

@TheSuperMex - So do I, we will see women in tight suits when The X-Men and Fantastic Four come out but let's be honest here which is better.

Thor or Jane Foster Thor
Hulk or She-Hulk
Captain America or Captain Carter
Iron Man or Ironheart
Black Panther or Shuri Black Panther
Hawkeye or Kate Bishop

I rest my case.
