The first episode of What If...? arrived on Disney+ this past Wednesday, and it's fair to say that Captain Carter's Multiverse debut has struck a chord with fans. While the episode was a fairly straightforward retelling of Captain America: The First Avenger, this new take on Peggy Carter was a great way of introducing viewers to the concept of both the show and the MCU's Multiverse.

However, those of you hoping for something completely different will want to make sure you tune in next Wednesday for an instalment that puts the spotlight on T'Challa's transformation into Star-Lord.

In these stills from "What If...Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?" we get a closer look at several key moments from the episode, including Peggy rocketing into action alongside Steve Rogers' HYDRA Stomper. Josh Keaton lent his voice to this version of Steve, and recently took to Twitter to say, "Thanks so much for all the positive reaction to my filling in for Chris Evans."

"I'm a geek and comic fan myself and know how particular we can be about changes and I absolutely had some huge shoes to step into. Luckily, they were a little skinnier in this version."

Check out these cool new stills for What If...? below, and make sure to read our breakdown of the biggest changes to the MCU to find out where things could be going next for the series.

Hint: The same exact crap happens as in the movie you already saw, meaning Steve isn't special at all. Any decent and motivated individual given the serum would've done ALL the same heroic stuff and ended up in the exact same place.

@BackwardGalaxy - Anyone can get the super soldier serum and become enhanced. The MCU establishes that clearly.

BUT…Steve Rogers was unique in that the serum took someone who was MORE than just a decent, motivated individual…and made him a EXCEPTIONAL individual. Mljonir says so.

Here’s the trick question. Is Peggy worthy to wield Mljonir? That is something we don’t know (and up to a writer to decide).

@BackwardGalaxy - Peggy Carter isn't an average woman, she was special before and after the serum.

I loved this concept far more than I expected, and found myself wanting a whole spin off in this universe, but stay in the past with Captain Carter and the Hydra Stomper in the field and Howard as the tech guy on comms.

The things I disliked the most about this What If was how it felt slave to the basic template of The First Avenger. I would have liked events to have been completely different (like Peggy not having to sacrifice herself to parallel Steve's sacrifice. Thise kinda limitations kinda hampered things. Or the train scene, we knew someone was gonna get hurt because Bucky did originally. I don't like them being trapped into basic story beats being the same. I want Peggy's experiences to be different beyond surface level variations of Steve's story as Cap.

I would love to see the adventures of Captain Carter, Hydra Stomper and Howard go completely off the rails and get to have their own adventures.

I really liked the first episode, my only complaint is that the plot was familiar and too short. Animation was great, I loved the fast paced and smooth combat. I definitely want to see Captain Carter in live action.

I watched it last night. I loved it. Wish they would make more cartoons instead.

That plane fight sequence was so fluid and beautiful looking. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment.

I think we are going to get Captain Carter in live action at some point...I really do.

Since it looks like she is going to be consistent throughout the series (which we see in trailers) and with the next few Marvel movies dealing with the topic of the multiverse, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Captain Carter shows up in some capacity in the next Doctor Strange movie. Wouldn't be cool if the next big "endgame-like" moment coming up in theaters will be heroes from different timelines coming together to defeat Kang, kinda like the "Avengers Forever" comic. We thought the audience lost they're minds before, just imagine seeing something like Captain Carter and Captain America fighting back to back, etc.

BTW, the episode was fun all around, will definitely be watching the rest. Plus, it helps that these were some of my favorite comics to "borrow" from my brother growing up, lol.

I had loved the still images and was hoping that the animation would look good in motion. I was not disappointed! I am seriously hoping we get a behind the scenes look at how they did the animation, because it was absolutely breathtaking.

This was a thing of beauty to watch. It was a reminder of the power of high quality 2D Disney animation. The entire show was an enhanced throwback to the Disney animation of the 30's and 40's. It looked like something created by the "Snow White" animation team.

Just make a "What if...Peggy became all of the Avengers?" timeline where we get Peggy Thor, Peggy Stark, and a big green Peggy Hulk.
