WHAT IF...? Just Created A New Team Of Avengers...And Introduced A Surprise Big Bad - SPOILERS

"What If...The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes?"

That was the question posed by The Watcher in today's episode of What If...?, and we got to see things head to some crazy places as a result. Revisiting Iron Man 2, we see Black Widow once again administer that antidote to Tony Stark in the diner...only for the Armoured Avenger to immediately drop dead!

Next, we head to that fateful night in Thor when the God of Thunder tried and failed to lift Mjolnir. This time, however, something causes Hawkeye to slip and his arrow kills Thor after piercing his heart. In custody, Clint Barton also dies under mysterious circumstances, prompting Loki and his Asgardians to invade Earth. Black Widow, meanwhile, tracks down Bruce Banner.

That campus battle plays out as it did in The Incredible Hulk, but this time, Bruce is shot and when he becomes the Jade Giant, he inflates and grows to the point where he literally bursts/explodes.

Natasha figures out who was responsible for the death of those Nick Fury planned to use as part of his Avengers Initiative, but is herself taken out by an invisible enemy. That's enough for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director to come to the conclusion that Hank Pym is behind these murders. Later, we learn that, in this reality, Hank has become Yellow Jacket and is out for revenge after his daughter, Hope, joined Fury's organisation and ended up being killed in the line of duty.

Fury and Loki team up to take him out, but the God of Mischief decides to conquer the planet, leaving Fury with only one choice: he calls Captain Marvel back to Earth and finds Captain America frozen in ice. With that, a new team of Avengers is created, but that's sadly where we leave things here...

I just said this in another article post, I truly expect to see that's Captain Carter in ice, and T'Challa Star Lord should be joining the team as well. I also expect to see Kilmonger Black Panther. The "New" Avengers will then take on Loki and eventually Ego. I now hope this is a continuation series each week. I was iffy on this but now they have me hooked and I can't wait for next week's episode. Wonder what other characters are going to be given the "What If...?" spin. What If Thanos has to do the snap and get rid of 50% of the universe in order to save the universe from Ego....just brainstorming the possibilities!

@Coach - If it were Captain Carter, the shield would be different.

Also that's not how Captain Carter ended up in the modern day.

@Coach - Cap's shield was on Knowhere in T'Challa 's episode

@Coach - I would like to see "What If....The Snap Dusted the Other 50% Instead?"

@Coach - How would all of that work? All those characters are in different timelines? And that wasn't Captain Carter's shield on ice. That was Captain America's.

I know they will eventually team up and become the Guardians of the Multiverse. But that can only happen if they do some multiverse shenanigans. And I don't think that's about to happen here.

@Coach - It's most likely Steve Rogers. Ya know, Coulson's password.

@Coach - it's definitely a case where all these episodes take place in their own timelines. The only instance of them all coming together is if there's spiderverse shenanigans.

@Coach - so at the moment each story we get in each episode is s separate reality/universe/branch. Something in the later episode happens that makes them all converge on one universe and create the team shot we saw in the trailer.

@Coach - nope. Captain Carter is release from the Hydra's portal hole and that's the different timeline. The shield is also different.

This version of the Avengers would probably be:

Captain America, Captain Marvel, Rhodey, Black Panther, maybe The Ancient One, Wong or Mordo who'd help out with some magic, The Warriors Three who'd change sides after some convincing.
Either Way:
-> Loki is done for in that universe.

@SpaceAgent - Yes, Rhodey's fight with Tony happens right before Tony's death scene here, so he has the War Machine armor.

Great episode but It kinda ended on a cliffhanger that I hope gets resolved

@PantherKing - ehh, I think we get the gist of it. I mean, Carol can take on a Kree armada, she is not going to have much trouble with some low-level asgardians and Loki. granted, I wish the episode lasted at least a couple minutes more just to see that ass-whooping but hey, what can you do?

Someone in the last article about this episode called it:

Saying that Hank Pym would be responsible for this.

I had a few people in mind of who was the murdered. Don’t think I had Hank Pym in mind. When Black Widow was fighting an invisible enemy I thought it was Ghost. I also had Hydra and Loki in mind too.
Ace101
Ace101 - 8/25/2021, 7:03 AM
@tb86 - exactly about half way through I was like hydra has unleashed the winter soldier early to take out furys pet project before they could become a thorn in hydras plan for world domination. When it was pym my mind was rightfully blown and it was finally great to get a mentally unhinged Hank Pym in the mcu. I wish we had got Pym to be part of the Ultron creation and then became unhinged afterwards.

@Ace101 - I pondered about Winter Soldier as well as Ghost, especially with Widow' s fight.
