WHAT IF...? Season 2 Will Feature An Episode Based On This Year's BLACK WIDOW Movie

We've heard the second season of What If...? will put a new spin on Phase 4 movies and TV shows, and it's now been revealed that one of the episodes will tackle Black Widow. Find more after the jump...

We're four episodes into What If...?, and the show has thus far put a fresh spin on movies like Captain America: The First Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, and Doctor Strange. Moving into season 2, the plan is to tackle some Phase 4 stories as well, and we now know what at least one of the episodes is going to focus on.

During a recent interview with The Direct, What If...? production designer Paul Lasaine dropped a big tease about the second batch of episodes, confirming that one of them will revolve around Black Widow.

"There's an episode that is based on one of the movies that literally just came out with the woman with the red hair," he teased, choosing his words carefully (but likely not carefully enough for Marvel Studios' liking). It's certainly interesting to think about the direction an episode like this could take and whether it would have an impact on Natasha's sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame.

Scarlett Johansson didn't voice Black Widow in the third episode of What If...?, and seeing as she's in the midst of a legal battle with Disney, chances are we won't be hearing her in season 2, either!

Luckily, Lake Bell has done a terrific job as Natasha Romanoff thus far, though we're keeping everything crossed that Marvel Studios is able to enlist the likes of Florence Pugh and David Harbour. It's likely going to be a long time until we find out what the plan is for this episode of What If...?, of course, but it's good to see that the series is shifting its focus to newer MCU stories.

How would you guys like to see this one play out?
