Fantastic Four actress Jessica Alba - who probably prefers to be known for her roles in
Dark Angel and
Sin City rather than the disappointing Fox superhero flick - is reportedly set to executive produce and star opposite Gabrielle Union in NBC's upcoming
Bad Boys spinoff pilot.
Union will reprise her character Syd Burnett from
Bad Boys 2, while Alba will play her partner Nancy McKenna. As detailed by Variety:
McKenna joined the Army out of high school and spent most of the 2000s in Iraq and Afghanistan. Women weren’t allowed in combat, so she joined the military police to get closer to the action. McKenna is now a detective raising two preteen stepkids with her husband.
In the series, Burnett has left the DEA and now has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. The as-yet-untitled show is written by The Blacklist writers and producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Original Bad Boys producer Jerry Bruckheimer will executive produce the series with Doug Belgrad, who also work on the franchise, alongside Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.
In addition to the television series, a third Bad Boys film, titled Bad Boys For Life, is slated to begin principal photography in August with Sony in negotiations with the filmmaking duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah to helm the long-delayed sequel.
