JUPITER'S LEGACY Star Josh Duhamel On Possible SUPER CROOKS Return And Why The Show Was Canceled (Exclusive)

While Jupiter's Legacy was cancelled after just one season, more stories told in that world are coming to Netflix. Here, Josh Duhamel comments on that and what sounds like a difficult time making the show.

Despite being a hit in terms of viewership numbers, Netflix decided to cancel Jupiter's Legacy after a single season. Fans of the series weren't happy (especially after such a big cliffhanger ending), and neither was the cast. In what appeared to be damage control on the streamer's part, it was later said that characters from the show could return, with Super Crooks set in the same world.

That leaves the door open to some sort of crossover between the two, so when we had Josh Duhamel on the phone to discuss his role as Two-Face in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part 2 (which is set to be released on Digital on July 27 and Blu-ray on August 10), we asked the actor if he's hoping to reprise the role of The Utopian in Super Crooks or another of these Millarworld TV shows.

"I don’t know. I don’t know what their plan is over there," he admitted. "It was a bit of a surprise. We performed really well [and] the show was #1 for three weeks around the world. I don’t know what else we could have done performance-wise, but I also understand that whenever someone new comes to a network and takes the helm, they want to make their own stamp."

"It was an expensive show and we had problems, you know. We went through, I think, three showrunners on that thing, and as a production, it was really expensive. We were able to keep the train going down the track and, ultimately, I thought it was a really good show. I was proud of it and I think the fans really loved it."

As for whether a return could be on the cards, Duhamel concluded: "I don’t know, hopefully in some capacity, I get to put on that suit again whether it be a feature film or maybe in one of these new versions of Millarworld. I had a great time and loved working with everybody and the way the show turned out. It was definitely a really difficult job, but a really, really rewarding one."

Those behind-the-scenes problems are likely what led to Jupiter's Legacy being cancelled in the first place, but it's certainly exciting to think about The Utopian making a cameo appearance in something like Super Crooks. With any luck, there will be some sort of continuation down the line, especially as Duhamel has previously revealed that the show was only ever going to run for two or three seasons, anyway.

Hopefully, we'll have a positive update to share in the not too distant future.

Jupiter's Legacy had so much potential but it failed.

Speaking of cancelled shows, the show Manifest was cancelled for a Law and Order spin off and netflix didnt revive it . Now the Law and Order spin off has been scrapped and now both the network and netflix are in talks with the studio behind the show about bringing it back.

Josh Dallas from it would be a good Flash

Too bad we are stuck with Miller

@dracula - judging from the set photos, we might even get stuck with two of Miller's Barry

@dracula - It took me 2.5 seasons of binging of Manifest to realize that he was the original Fandral in Thor 1

@dracula - The guy's in his 40s...you really think he'll be a good Flash? Lmao.

@LlamaLord - ignoring his age yeah, he could pull if off. A lot better than Ezra “choke the bitch” Miller

He is also younger than Affleck. Also not talking him taking over the role of young hipster wally wannabe barry, talking if they rebooted and actually let him play barry not a wally wannabe

@dracula - I watched the entirety of Once Upon a Time and never once felt like he was leading man material. He's fine, but I can never see him leading a serious blockbuster. He just doesn't give off that vibe.

Dont you hate it when netflix puts spoilers in the preview images for their original shows. Just got someone to watch a show, finished season 1 and then took it off. First image that pops up is a big spoiler

It was alright but nowhere near as good as the comic book.

@marvel72 - I thought it was canceled cause it sucked.

The flashbacks stuff was probably the best of the show, since it was the only thing that I could invested in in the show. Wouldn't mind a Jupiter's Circle then

@bkmeijer - The flashback stuff was the only stuff from the comic. Everything else was them slowly building up to the actual story in the most boring way possible, which is ironic because the comic is really fast-paced.

@BrettMan - yeah, and it didn't even ended the same as the comic, which may have increased want/need forva second season.

Right now it just felt like nothing really happened because 1) it cut away before something interesting could happen and 2) I couldn't get invested because of that.

"We went through, I think, three showrunners on that thing". THAT I did not know but frankly explains a lot.

There were a lot of good pieces in that show, but it seemed to lack a clear vision.

@Rosraf - I found it a little slow in places, even the fight scenes were a little boring.

His show was canceled because it sucked and no one watched it and most of those who did walked away with a shrug.

I've only read a little bit of Legacy and Circle and while it didn't blow me away, I enjoyed it more than what I saw from the show. Honestly it could have been really great by just taking what worked from the comic and improving on it instead of . It should have almost been like Sons of Anarchy or Succession with superheroes, really honing in on the Shakespearean family dynamic of the Sampsons and the other heroes/villains as they relate to, lie to, and manipulate each other over the fate of the world at large.

Shame. The comics are pretty good. Wish they just focused on the past for the first season.

I really watched this show and didn't realize flashbacks were happening in this show at all. I'm not sure I ever got invested in Anything in this show and ultimately I just skipped to the end and never looked back. True story guys

They should’ve made the plot they used as a edited down to three episodes and got into whatever they were planning for season two by episode 4.

The show, though slow in its build up, had laid the groundwork for potential success. It being cancelled does suck, and although a cameo in Super Crooks would be nice, I could see an made for TV type movie being made, as the show already does all the introductions.

Cut out the boring trash, and make a 90-120 min action packed Super flick. It’s not that hard.

I thought the show was ok, but the acting from some of the cast was just so bad, so, to be honest, let's forget this ever happened.

It just felt underwhelming, didn't help a show like Invincible was out as well. And then the big plot twist was convoluted, felt like the guy was doing too much to get away with something that no one cared about.

Netflix should consider doing Astro City adaptation!
