STRANGER THINGS Stars Believe Series Needs "One Or Two More Seasons" To Wrap Everything Up

On the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet, Stranger Things stars Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Noah Schnapp were asked for their thoughts on Season 3 and when they believe the series should end.

Season 3 of Stranger Things is shaping up to be the biggest yet for the popular Netflix series. But following a sophomore season that received mixed reception, many fans are hoping this season can capture the same magic as the first. According to at least three of the series' stars — Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) and Noah Schnapp (Will) — Season 3 is the best yet.

"It does a good job of mixing the playfulness of Season 1 and the darkness of Season 2," said Schnapp when speaking to ET on the red carpet of the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.  Everything's intensified," added co-star Gaten Matarazzo. "It's just a bigger, cooler... It's awesome."

Admitting they are "a bit biased," the trio agreed that it's a fantastic season regardless of their starring in the show. The conversation shifted somewhat when ET host Lauren Zima brought up Game of Thrones and how the cast of HBO's show didn't refer to Season 8 as the best.

"They have a lot to go up against," said Schnapp, acknowledging the difference in the number of seasons for both shows. "And also, this may not be our last season," Wolfhard added. "We don't know."

With plot details for Season 3 being kept under wraps, no one knows if this will be the final season of Stranger Things — not even the cast. So they were asked when they would like to see the series end, and all of them agreed it needs at least another season or two.

"Probably like, five [seasons]." Schapp answered. Matarazzo had a different response: "I think we should stop whenever the story feels like it needs to be completed. If there's no more story, there's no more story.

I think we definitely need one more to like tie it all up,"
Wolfhard chimed in, with the other two agreeing. "Either one or two more. At least one more to tie it up."

Given Wolfhard's response, it seems we'll still be left with some questions following the end of Season 3. And while the cast has had discussions about the series' length with Matt and Ross Duffer, they admitted the show's creators don't tell them anything.

Stranger Things Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on July 4.

Sounds fine, better to end strong than to drag it out until the show is crap.

Wasn't the plan always 4-5 seasons?

@tmp3 - I remember from an interview during S2 that S2 was made with the intentions that it would be the last. S2 was supposed to be the ending that's why everything that started in S1 kinda wrapped up like 11's origin, the gate of the creatures, will's dream, etc. They left "openings" for more seasons and spinoffs but S2 was meant to be the end.

Maybe Netflix and them changed their minds when they saw the numbers? Apparently if Stranger Things was on broadcast it would've rivaled GOT and Walking Dead as the most viewed show world wide.

Unpopular opinion: show's already crap. And Wolfnards or whatever its name is has a punchable face.

This absolutely won't be the last season, it never was. I mean, I guess short of the numbers on this one absolutely TANKING, that like the entire thing across the board gets the reaction that just 02x07 did and so Netflix up and bails on it that quickly... but I'd say that's quite unlikely. Even in the time first surrounding season 2 the Duffers said their overall plan was right about 4-5 seasons.

I think at least one more season should suffice.

I didn't really like season 2 - and that seems to be the general consensus on the internet. Here's to hoping that season 3 is a return to form.
