While we still await an official premiere date, Showtime has released a brief new teaser for the upcoming ten-episode limited series revival of acclaimed Golden Globe-winning drama Dexter, which will see Golden Globe-winner Michael C. Hall reprise his role as the titular serial killer.
Along with Hall, original showrunner Clyde Phillips, who worked on the series from the pilot to the jaw-dropping season four finale, is returning as showrunner on the project. He recently confirmed that the new season won't retcon anything from the original show, but will pick-up sometime after the events of the controversial series finale.
“We’re not undoing anything. We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream.’ What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.”
The supporting cast will consist of Julia Jones (The Mandalorian; Westworld), Alano Miller (Sylvie’s Love; Jane the Virgin), Johnny Sequoyah (Believe; American Housewife), Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country; The Gifted), Oscar Wahlberg (NOS4A2; Manchester by the Sea), Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird; The Blacklist), Michael Cyril Creighton (Spotlight; Game Night), and Clancy Brown (Thor: Ragnarok; Justice League) as the primary antagonist.
There aren't any details regarding other possible returning cast members, nor do we know anything about the overall plot, but based on this new teaser, it looks like Dexter is operating under new alias Jim Lindsay - and he may be getting that itch again.
The series is slated to return this Fall, and based on the original run of the show, it seems probable that the new limited series will debut sometime in late September or early October, at the latest.
