ANDOR's Third Episode Gets STAR WARS Fans Talking With Inclusion Of A Real-Life Swear Word

The third episode of Andor features a first for the Star Wars franchise, as a character uses a real-life swear word we definitely haven't heard used in this Galaxy Far, Far Away before now. Check it out!

This past Wednesday saw the debut of the first three episodes of Andor on Disney+, and the response from fans has been positive. The gritty, character-driven approach to the Star Wars franchise is a welcome change of pace for those who have grown tired of the fan service seen in The Book of Boba Fett, for example, though we do think that's a flawed argument.

After all, how much more fan service can you get than a prequel to a prequel to the Star Wars movie that started it all?

The series may not feature appearances from Darth Vader and other big-name characters (not yet, anyway), but it is fleshing out this Galaxy Far, Far Away in important ways. This includes showing us the earliest days of the Rebellion, though there was a moment in the third chapter that got everyone talking...and it has nothing to with Easter Eggs!

In the series, we see that Alex Ferns' (The Batman) Sergeant Linus Mosk of the Corporate Tactical Forces of Preox-Morlana is among those in pursuit of Cassian Andor, a task that isn't as easy as any of the group believed it would be.

When things start going wrong, he says, "Shit! We're under siege," marking the first time this real-life swear word has been used in the Star Wars franchise. Typically, these movies and TV shows have come up with their own versions of bad language, such as "poodoo," and while we have no complaints about a character saying "shit," it did feel a tad out of place!

Needless to say, we don't anticipate this being a precursor to Din Djarin dropping F-bombs when The Mandalorian returns next year, though it is an interesting creative decision on Andor's part.

Take a look at the clip below (via SFFGazette.com) and let us know what you think in the comments section!

It did actually surprise me. Would have much preferred the gruff, middle aged Scotsman to say Poodoo

@HagridsHole1 - Durin basically says shit in the new Rings of Power episode. It felt more out of place in Middle Earth IMO

Between Andor, House of the Dragon, and Rings of Power, I’m really enjoying on the concurrent lineup of shows at the moment.

If you look at the trajectory of the first three Star Wars films, they were edging more mature with each instalment.

But the merchandise led to cartoons and nostalgia cemented the OT as a precious slice of childhood and so the prequels (at least the first one) was aimed a much younger crowd.

But if you look at Jedi, it goes full Frazetta. There's even a boob in that movie! We think about the Ewoks as a jumping the shark moment, because they were essentially cute, fluffy teddy bears, but even they were a hardcore savage tribe who tried to eat the rebels and ended up playing drums on the severed heads of Stormtroopers.

I'm happy for things to get more mature. I think there's room in Star Wars for all kinds of styles, genres, tones and differently-rated content.

@ObserverIO - Star Wars has always been for kids and George Lucas has stated that pretty flat out for decades. He never meant to skew the stories into more mature fare and it’s one of the reasons he separated the book canon from films and such back when he still owned it.

@ObserverIO - this show feels more like the first SW and even more so like Empire. It feels nothing like Disny Star Wars so far.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 9/23/2022, 10:15 AM
@Deklipz - tell that to Irvin Kershner.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 9/23/2022, 11:44 AM
@Deklipz - Yeah, he stated that pretty consistently while making Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones (16 years after making Empire and Jedi) and then he made Sith (a very dark film drenched in politically dystopian philosophies).

@TheShape9859 @Fogs - It's been retconned by Disney as being helmets only. But yeah, that acoustic argument is solid (ironically).

@McMurdo - You get it. Maybe after the positive response to Andor, the next show will be more like Empire in tone.

In a galaxy far far away they use the word shit. Writers either understand it's a fantasy space opera or they don't, and Disney writers don"t. Just as stupid as if Tom Cruise used SW swear words in Top Gun, although at least that would be silly.

I loved Rogue One, I think it's by far the best Disney Star Wars movie yet. Is there a good reason to want to watch this, beside "well, it's more Star Wars" ?

This is just utterly laughable 🤣 Just go ahead and give every characters the Waititi Thor treatment already 🤣🤣

@OrgasmicPotatoe - it's already better than Rogue One. So yes

It seemed perfectly normal within the context of the show that I didn't even notice it.

Star Wars should've done something like Andor years ago.

I really like the vibe of this show, but two episodes in, it's just . . . dull. The characters all bleed together, Andor isn't especially compelling or noteworthy, and there's not much momentum to the story. Hoping it really picks up.

@BestAtWhatIDo - Episode 3 kicked ass, I’m back in. No wonder they were all released together. If you compare the writing/direction on this show to Obi-Wan, they’re in completely different leagues. A shame they couldn’t assemble a better creative team for a tier 1 character.

Because I'm a huge [frick]ing nerd, I rewrote Rise of Skywalker (and renamed it Balance of the Force) and put a "shit" in there, so I'm glad someone's on my wavelength.

Didn't realize that the sergeant dude played the commissioner in The Batman.

He was also the coal miner in Chernobyl.

The reason Gilroy SW is being heralded is because he is truly following in the footsteps of George. People like Abrams and Johnson made facsimiles of SW. They did their best to imitate it and it showed. Johnson less so as he desired to subvert it. Whether driven to imitate or subvert, neither motivations truly come from a love of SW. Hubris drove Johnson. Folly followed him.

George wasnt imitating SW, he was adapting WW2 footage, he was utilizing serial storytelling and implementing his love of Westerns and Eastern Mythology. He created a universe ripe with familiarity. One that felt lived in. Dirty.

Gilroy is adapting his love of spy thrillers and utilizing harty characterization to wade us through. He's doing what George did in his own way. He's not faking it. He's creating.
