STAR WARS: Dave Filoni Teases Plans To Address Sabine Wren's Fate Following RETURN OF THE JEDI

In the closing few minutes of Star Wars Rebels, we jumped ahead to beyond the events of Return of the Jedi to learn that Ashoka Tano and Sabine Wren's search for Ezra Bridger continued. We're bound to get some sort of acknowledgement of that when Tano shows up in The Mandalorian, but what about Sabine?

Given her history with Mandalore, common sense says she should cross paths with the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, but all we know so far is that Rosario Dawson is playing the live-action Ashoka.

During a recent interview with Deadline, showrunner Dave Filoni was asked to share his thoughts on the possibility of Sabine's story continuing. "Oh, I think it’s possible," he teased. "I mean, it’s definitely something that I left hanging at the end and part of that reason is just it’s always nice in my mind when there’s another story."

"I like things in a series, even when I read or watch them, and there’s always a bit of sadness when something does come to an end, so potential is a great thing. I love that people are thinking about these stories in the same way that I wondered about many stories. As a kid I wondered what happened to Luke after Return of the Jedi and all my heroes. I think it’s a natural part of enjoying this, and I think there’s always potential for further stories. Certainly, I will say it’s something I’ve given a decent amount of thought to, so you never know when or if it will actually ever take shape."

There's nothing to say this will happen in The Mandalorian season two, but it seems like a logical place to continue the character's story, We'll just have to wait and see, of course, but Filoni is definitely someone with his finger on the pulse with all things Star Wars, so we can trust him to do all of these characters justice.

Are you hoping to see more of Sabine?

Has Filoni ever commented on what he thought of The Last Jedi?

@Gmoney84 - Dave Filoni is a company man. He's built his career at LucasFilm and likely wants it to remain his home for the foreseeable future. Therefore, he's not in the position of actors like Mark Hamill, Sam Witwer, and John Boyega who can freely express their opinions without huge setbacks in their ambitions. He's essentially forced to be respectful of everything Star Wars puts out when speaking publicly. I've never even heard him say a negative word about the prequels, but I think that's largely out of respect for George Lucas and their relationship.

He may genuinely like everything, but I doubt that. I think he's playing it smart. After all, what's more important? Having a thousand fans like a tweet you post criticizing the latest disappointing Star Wars film or continuing to get to tell stories in the world you love so that fans like you can get the content they truly want?

Same. Also really wish I hadn't learned what did happen to them.

@TheJustinHammer - Oh man, now I'm even more depressed after watching those films.

@TheJustinHammer - there’s so many stories that could have told with the original characters but instead Disney chose to showcase their deaths.

All right! Let's get a post Jedi show with Han, Luke, and Leia going from Filoni. Incorporate some of George's ideas into it.

Is it ever really confirmed by Lucasfilm that Ahsoka is going to be in The Mandalorian season 2? Because I have the feeling it was just a rumor based on that Dawson was reportedly involved with the second season, but not confirmed in what way. I can see Lucasfilm doesn't say Dawson is playing Ahsoka because it would ruin the surprise, but it is already almost universally accepted that Dawson is in fact playing Ahsoka so why not confirm it if is the case?

All I'm saying is that I don't think Ahsoka is The Mandalorian and that Filoni will pick up her and Wren's story again in the future (preferably in a New Jedi Order show which also involves Luke and other Jedi like Cal)

Filoni is a SW genius. I have total faith in this man. I would love to have a couple of cold beverages with this guy and pick his brain about the SW universe.
