The Mandalorian's season 2 finale shocked us all with the surprise appearance of a young Luke Skywalker. No one saw it coming, and there wasn't a single leak beforehand, which is a rarity these days. After the Star Wars sequels delivered what many considered to be a disappointing portrayal of the Jedi Master, the Disney+ series more than made up for that with an epic fight sequence.
Now, the story of the cutting-edge technology used to bring Luke back is the subject of a special extra episode of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian, debuting August 25 on Disney+.
"'Making of the Season 2 Finale' is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this celebrated 'chapter' of 'The Mandalorian,' with a focus on the technology used for recreating Luke Skywalker," reads the synopsis. "It delves into the collaborative process, including working with Mark Hamill, to create an authentic and fitting recreation, and explores the immense pressure and responsibility the filmmakers had in bringing back one of the most important characters in film history."
This news comes shortly after it was revealed that the Television Academy recognised the second season of The Mandalorian with 24 Emmy award nominations, including "Best Drama Series."
There's been no word on Loki getting a "Disney Gallery" episode yet, but chances are that's coming next Wednesday. Regardless, this is exciting news, and getting to delve into Luke Skywalker's return should be a lot of fun for fans, especially as very little has been revealed about how the scene was created up until now (there was actually no real mention of it in the last making-of special).
As noted, this episode of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian hits Disney+ on August 25.
