THE MANDALORIAN Season 2 Won't Be Delayed, But Things Are Less Certain For Marvel's TV Shows

New Disney CEO Bob Chapek has offered some hope when it comes to The Mandalorian's planned premiere date, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision might not be quite as lucky...

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in productions across the globe being forced to close down, and while work is slowly resuming in some countries, it's clearly going to be a very, very long time before things are back to normal. On the plus side, The Mandalorian's second season is coming to Disney+ as planned this Fall (on October premiere date is currently expected).

During an interview with CNBC to discuss Disney's future plans, the company's CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that the Star Wars TV series finished shooting before the pandemic hit, and that post-production has been taking place since. As a result, he confirms that, "there will be no delay on Mandalorian."

What about Marvel's TV shows The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision?

The former is scheduled for an August premiere, while the latter was originally eyeing a December debut. Asked what the deal with those is, Chapek declined to comment on the current status of both shows.

That could pose problems for Disney+ moving forward, as there's a real lack of original content coming our way on the streaming service this year. If we're lucky, Marvel Studios will be able to finish them in time, but it ultimately depends on what happens over the coming weeks and months.

Are you excited for more of The Mandalorian on Disney+?

I'm so grateful that Phase 3 wrapped up last year.

@MasterMix - Can you imagine if the Infinity Saga was 2-3 movies out from being done and we just suddenly stopped getting MCU movies indefinitely. Pandemonium.

Ummmmm WandVision wrapped filing already and they already restarted production on Falcon and Bucky overseas. This is just lazy filler.

@patgreyc - Since when did F&WS restart production?

@LongMayHeReign - it was announced recently that they could return to Prague I believe.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah but that doesn't mean that production has actually started which is what he was referring to tho.

@HeavyMetal4Life - key word could. All it takes is for an important actor to not feel comfortable going back to work now for them to decide its not worth continuing yet.

Disney+ really dropped with nothing being even close to finished except Mando and Clone Wars.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - 100% agree I think falcon and winter soldier should've been released near launch, that being said The Imagineering Story is awesome! :)

@SpideyPuffsMJ - TBF they're also banking on the nostalgic crowd. I have friends that are HUGE Disney fans (the type that go to Disneyland every weekend) with kids and they watch Disney+ almost daily. Its not hard to imagine that there's a lot of people out there that use it for the same purpose, so I dont think they completely dropped the ball.

We're just giant nerds who only care about the new shit and want it now.

@Himura - That's also true, I've found that I've been watching more Lizzie Mcguire, Even Stevens and Kim Possible then the Marvel and Star Wars content purely because of the nostalgia train! So it's not hard to see the average person feeling overwhelmed just with the content they have already on here without the original material!

I really wouldn't be surprised if the shows all move back a release slot too. They're probably not finished in timr and can't imagine they wanna kick off Phase 4 with a show either

If Falcon and The Winter Soldier can't premiere in August then there is always September.

I watched most of the video, including (I think) all of the bit about Disney+, and I didn’t see him decline to comment on the Marvel Shows. He brought up the Mandalorian specifically to say that pre-production and post-production continues on projects, and only those that were shooting were at a halt. He seemed to think it wouldn’t result in much of a problem for content in the pipeline.

The only thing people watch on Disney+ is Star Wars and Jessie.
