Old Harvey "Scissorhands" Weinstein has finally relented and come to a compromise with Bong Joon-ho over the final cut of the director's critically acclaimed sci-fi flick, Snowpiercer. In case you're not aware of the whole hullabaloo surrounding this, basically Weinstein deemed US audiences too dumb to fully grasp Joon-ho's two-and-a-half hour cut of the movie and was demanding 20 minutes cut and a voice-over added. The director fought him on it though, and now they've come to an arrangement: Weinstein will release the full cut of the movie, but only as a platform release — meaning the film will most likely only hit a few major cities before "rolling" out to other markets. I think this is, on the whole, great news. Even if you won't be able to catch the movie in your area (I myself have to travel quite a distance to find anything but multiplexes) at least you'll eventually be able to see the movie as Joon-ho intended you to, be in on VOD or home release. What do you guys make of this news?
