These are my thoughts of the Venom movie and what needs to happen for it to be good.

As most of you may know by now, Josh Trank from "Chronicle" is now in negotiations to direct "Venom" for Sony. Before we get too optimistic, lets thoroughly think about this.

To say chronicle was a success may be an understatement. Not only were the reviews positive, but it really showcased Trank's skills as a director. He's been a fairly hot commodity ever since the movie's release. With a big budget movie, I believe Trank will prove his worth.

Venom is such a difficult character for an actor to play, because unlike Spider-man or any of our comic book characters in Hollywood, Venom dabbles with the idea of being a hero and a villain more than most. An actor who can portray both sides is a must. The actor must be older and more distinguished than Peter to give him an upper hand. With that said, some great choices for venom would be-

Josh Hartnett- This may seem odd, but it's hard to believe that he wouldn't make an awesome Eddie Brock after seeing the last twenty minutes of 30 days of night.

Kellan Lutz- He almost was one of the actors who were in talks for The Bourne Legacy. I think with a role such as this, Lutz can showcase his skills as an actor.

Armie Hammer- This guy is huge. He has proved to be a great actor and he has the Venom look in my opinion. Even though Venom is far more menacing than any character he has ever played, he has some experience in playing two personalities in the same movie (The Social Network). Hammer is becoming a rising star pretty swiftly.

As far as the suit goes, I think it'll look fine as long as it looks like Andrew Garfield's suit, just all black. It would give Venom the dark look he deserves. I don't think there's any doubt that Eddie Brock won't be the protagonist. As for now, we can only hope that Sony give Venom the same treatment they gave The Amazing Spider-Man, even if that means making Marc Webb a producer. Of course the script must be good, but it seems to me that Sony nailed the casting and the tone for TASM so I wouldn't doubt their direction with this. Spider-Man definitely must be referenced and I would greatly enjoy if Lizard possibly makes an appearance in this movie or even participates in one. I didn't start following Venom until somewhat recently, so if you want to inform me about something that you disagree with or anything you do agree with that I said, sound off below!

I can actually see Josh Hartnett as Eddie Brock/Venom. I think he attracts to me as th character than the others cuz the transformation just would look interesting. Plus it would be nice to see him in a darker character role for a change. As far as Carnage goes, I don't know why I'm saying this but Johnny Whitworth actually might make a good Carnage. Again odd choice but after seeing him as a villain for a action movie, well villain in general he just sounds the part.

The reason why Carnage will be the villain is because Sony can give us a hard R rated movie in the Spider-Man universe without butchering him in any way, that's just my opinion. Johnny Witworth is a great actor. Although the movie was garbage, i pleasantly enjoyed him as whiteout, and I'm sure I would enjoy him as carnage.

I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. Didn't you read the poll? Most people agreed that a Venom movie was a good idea, who else should he fight? Carnage is red goo too, plus their similarities is what makes the story so fleshed out. It's about the conflict from within.

No.Spidey, no Venom.

Unless Venom is Flash Thompson. That would be cool.Especially if he battles Al Qaeda in like covert special ops kinda stuff.

I agree, flash will already have part of his story told in TASM and that story will definitely be something unique, even though it somewhat resembles Iron Man, I love the design and the fighting style of the Flash Thompson venom.

@mrsinister
I love how the suit gives him legs (I may be off a little because I haven't dove too deep into it) and that can coincide with the missing piece story line in TASM, like he feels complete with the suit and albeit there's consequences he contemplates whether he should keep it on past 48 hours, but doesn't the government have a kill swith or something for him?
@fangz
I hate how comics are able to have completely different story lines at once and movies can't, that's why I didn't disagree with the new justice league bearing no relation to any DC movie already released

covert special ops venom would work better on film,maybe save venom for the amazing spider-man 3.

Yes, great idea, that way there will be two Venoms with no connection, Flash would be in the Middle East and Eddie Brock will be in New York so there wouldn't be a reason to have to explain any connection. Sounds great, but I would prefer a Venom reference at the very least in TASM part 2

If Sony let's Marvel control it, yet still retain the rights to the property then I wouldn't mind. But doubt that will happen.

i think amazing spider-man 2 main villain will be green goblin,a mention or hint that venom is coming would be great.

after venom in spider-man 3 we need the character to be portrayed correctly this time.

I was hoping that was the case with daredevil for years

@marvel72
I hope your predictions are true

As much as I really don't want this film to happen, nor do I want Venom or the black suit to be in the new series, I think I might actually enjoy it somewhat if it's either
a) a horror-type film, with the symbiote in full control
or, b) an adaptation on the Flash Thompson incarnation of the character currently in the comics now.

Sony sucks.. They already butchered Venom once.. Pls don't massacre him as well.. Let Marvel get the Spidey rights back and have them do a Maximum Carnage storyline which could easily fill 2 or maybe even 3 feature films.. Now THAT would be sick.. Have Spidey face off against Venom in the first one and set up Carnage for the second having both Spidey and Venom join forces to defeat Carnage.. That would make for 2 awesome Spidey movies and set up Venom for his own solo film.. I wish I worked in movies lol

Well in the ultimate series Peter's parents, as well as Brock's parents, developed the symbiote to act as a cure for cancer I believe. It has more of a terrestrial background in the ultimates, so I don't believe it would need to merge with Spidey first, and I would hope Sony doesn't even flirt with that idea being that i hated the black suit Spidey in part 3.
