That First Image From VENOM Actually Confirms Some Longstanding Rumors About The Movie

The first official image from Venom has been met with a mostly negative response from fans, mostly because it shows Tom Hardy...looking a lot like Tom Hardy. However, on closer inspection, it actually confirms some key details about the Sony Pictures release. As you've no doubt already realised, the still shows Eddie in journalist mode (we don't know for who) but have you zoomed in on his notebook?

Well, we have, and it appears to list the following questions in regards to the interview he's conducting.
  • So, how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?
  • What about the allegations your empire is built on?
  • That you recruit the most vulnerable of us to volunteer for the tests that end up...them?
Eddie is clearly looking into the Life Foundation, a group in the comics that becomes convinced the world is going to end by nuclear holocaust so starts planning a future society for its rich clients. However, they also create five create five symbiotes - Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony - Venom ultimately does battle with. In the movie, though, it sounds like they've been conducting human trials!

It will be interesting seeing just how much the Venom movie ends up picking and choosing from the comics. It's easy to see where it's taking its inspiration from, of course, but we still have no idea how close to the source material it will stick (especially as Spidey isn't expected to appear in any form).

However, they also create five create five symbiotes

So, does that mean 10?

Venom without spider-man is so weird to me. I'll give the film a shot though.

I’m still excited for the movie but now I’m getting the feeling I’m not going to be overly happy with some of the creative decisions they have made.

From this "news", it leads me to believe we're going to get an Agent Venom interpretation, and if that's the case, I would welcome that, so that the more traditional Venom can be (hopefully) saved for Spider-Man. Wishful thinking, I know.
