TRUTH IN JOURNALISM Director Adi Shankar Is Reportedly In Line To Helm The VENOM Movie For Sony Pictures

It now seems very clear that Sony Pictures plans to fast-track their Venom movie, and we might just have word on one of the filmmakers the studio has in mind to direct the Spider-Man spinoff...

Yesterday, we reported on a rumor that Sony Pictures was planning to make their Venom movie the first in a series of R-rated projects that would eventually build to form their own shared cinematic universe of Spidey characters. It seems like an absurd idea to most, but the studio is clearly determined to forge ahead, and now we hear that they may already have a filmmaker in mind.

Splashreport.com has heard that Adi Shankar is one of the directors on Sony's radar to helm the "action / horror / sci-fi" take on one of the Webhead's most popular foes. Shankar, who is known primarily as a producer, brought us the Venom-centric short film Truth In Advertising a few years back, so it's entirely possible his work on that caught the studio's eye.

We'll have to take this as a rumor for now, but it would make a certain amount of sense if Sony were at least considering Shankar for the Venom gig. What do you guys think?

Everyday I see more news of this, the more it hurts my brain thinking wtf are they even thinking at Sony? You're piggybacking off the MCU, which was a brilliant deal, then you do this and the Black Cat/Silver Sable team up.....WITHOUT SPIDERMAN.

@Menks123 - Well Tom "Make Galactus a cloud" Rothman is CEO of Sony Pictures

@Kryptonmatters - Yeah... Between Rothman and Arad, I have little faith in any Sony lead Marvel stuff.

This is bullshit, why make a solo movie on a spiderman villain when spiderman himself is in another continuity?

@DetBullock - Who says Spidey doesnt exist in this verse, he may not appear, but doesnt mean he doesnt exist.

@eagc1995 - The point is him not appearing
eagc1995
eagc1995 - 3/29/2017, 8:28 AM
@Kevwebsz - I dont think Spidey needs to appear in order for the movie to work, Venom has had his own solo advantures in the comics, why cant they do the same with the movies?.

@DetBullock - continuity is like fox's universe. they are all in the same world, just differ place and time. you dont see daredevil with iron man? and its still good. dont need spidey to pull a nick fury and cameo every film, he is going to get played out
DetBullock
DetBullock - 3/29/2017, 1:15 PM
@mastakilla39 - yea, but one thing is doing TV series and movies, another is doing this game between movies, Sony is just being greedy and probably trying to leverage Marvel some more.

@eagc1995 - Because the comics are aimed at people who probably already read spiderman or are aware of it (nerds without social life like me for example to be more precise), the random guy is probably lucky to remember he's a spiderman villain at all.

lol, this guy is one of the crazies, his bootleg power rangers was good, but keep him out of cbm's

maybe this is a sign, a sign that sony should stop [frick]ing with spidey, give those to feige

Wait, is it true Spider-Man is going back to SONY after the Homecoming sequel? I really hope not...
Menks123
Menks123 - 3/28/2017, 6:07 PM
@DashParr - Think the only way that happens is if Homecoming bombs completely. That's the only thing that makes sense, but I think most people are taking that comment way too far and out of context.

@DashParr - There's no way Sony and Marvel would've even made a deal, if it meant Spidey would go right back to Sony after 2019. That means Marvel has to forcefully explain through narrative why Spiderman isn't there anymore, Sony has to reboot again... It just doesn't make sense. Unless Sony is as diabolical as

... Then I'm sure Spidey is in the MCU for good.

@DashParr - It's not true, but it's a possibility based on what Amy Pascal said.
