Venom may have been a critical flop in 2018, but it was a massive box office success for Sony and proof for the studio that they could deliver hits without the help of Marvel Studios. Even Venom: Let There Be Carnage exceeded box office expectations in this "pandemic era," receiving much better reviews (though it has slipped into "Rotten" status following its Blu-ray release) in the process.
It's obvious that a third chapter of the franchise will arrive sooner rather than later, and a recent interview with Collider saw producer Amy Pascal confirm that work has begun on Venom 3.
"We are in the planning stages right now but what we are focused on is getting everybody to come and see No Way Home," she noted, making it clear that it's too soon to talk about that next instalment. Venom: Let There Be Carnage set the stage for a number of different directions that next movie could head in, including clashes with Toxin and possibly even the MCU's Spider-Man.
Someone who is a little more willing to talk about Venom 3 is filmmaker Andy Serkis. His involvement with the franchise served as a major improvement over Ruben Fleischer, and the director told Metro the following when asked if he'd return for another movie. "Well, hopefully," Serkis admitted. "I don’t want to count our chickens. But yeah, of course. It was such a fun world to play in."
The interview took place prior to Pascal's comments being published, and Serkis seemed confident the Lethal Protector will return to the big screen. "I mean, yeah, of course. It’s such a wonderful world to play in. And I’m sure there will be [more movies], I’m sure there will be."
It's certainly going to be an interesting few years for Venom, but something we can firmly state is that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock definitely has a future...regardless of which world that plays out in.
