There's been a lot of mystery surrounding Sony's Venom spinoff starring Tom Hardy, and while the teaser trailer didn't give us much to go on, a brand new trailer that debuted at CinemaCon gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the film's story. From the looks of it, we're getting an origin story surrounding a government conspiracy without a hint of Spider-Man, which was to be expected given the deal between Marvel and Sony surrounding that character's rights.

That being said, it appears the film is still sticking true to many other elements of Eddie Brock's character, including his journalistic background and his run as a "lethal protector" in the comics. Check out the trailer, along with a new poster below and let us know your thoughts!

Venom hits theatres on October 5, 2018.
