Mortal Kombat has been in development behind-the-scenes for quite some time now, but with a brand new release date, the James Wan-produced video game adaptation is amping up for a 2021 release, one that already has some big competition.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, the Mortal Kombat film will be hitting theaters March 5, 2021, the same date as Sony's recently announced Masters of the Universe movie.

Pre-production on Mortal Kombat starts this month, with production expected to begin before 2020. The video game franchise, which started in 1992, is currently celebrating the release of Mortal Kombat 11.

This needs to have the tone of the Deadpool movies with action comparable to the best of Hong Kong cinema. Also the story is important, because the games have had some pretty shit stories. Make it simple. Have Liu Kang be the protagonist, and IMO they should keep the thing about him refusing to kill. Having a guy be non-lethal in a world full of warriors that can pull of the most absurd fatalities can be compelling and not boring if done right.
