If you've been keeping up with the Halo series, you're likely to remember the ambiguous ending of Halo 3. If you never finished it, or you don't remember, here's a link to Wikipedia. (If you haven't beat it by now, and you plan too, you're a bit behind schedule)

Without further ado, Halo 4 was announced recently. 343 Industries, the successor to Bungie for the Halo throne, has exciting and fresh ideas for Master Chief's new escapades.
This from GameRant

"...at PAX Prime HaloFest 343 Industries held a panel to talk to their fans more about the Halo franchise and didn’t escape without dropping some news on their current project, Halo 4. The biggest announcement was the name of the series: The Reclaimer Trilogy. As you may know, 343 Guilty Spark, a character in the Halo series often refers to Master Chief as ‘The Reclaimer’ so it seems 343 Industries has decidedly locked Master Chief into the title role of the next three games of the Halo franchise.

The panel didn’t reveal too much information about Halo 4‘s plot as 343 kept their lips sealed when it came to spoilers, but they did answer several interesting questions from the crowd. The panel explained that players can expect some of the old gritty UNSC weapons, as well as new upgrades thanks to the discovery of Forerunner technology."

Apparently, the release of Halo Reach was an important milestone in the history of the franchise, but with Halo Anniversary's release on the horizon too gamers can expect a hefty dose of Covenant butt-kicking in the near future. So if you've been absolutely antsy with excitement, or you're simply a fan, you need not wait very much longer. 343 Industries has been working while you have been sleeping.

It looks like Master Chief will be taking on brand new challenges this time around. At least he's not in need for someone to claim his hat, like a certain Indiana Jones we all know.

To whet your appetite a bit, here is some concept art and a link to an additional article with some Halo 4 info.

Cant wait for the return of Halo, Halo Anniversary is gonna be a great update of the original game and such a love letter to the fans

And even though I cant wait for Halo 4, I really hope its not gonna be a trilogy of flogging a dead horse. I want the Halo series to be considered one of the best first-person shooters again. I would love to see Halo 4 with a new feel to it when it comes to the story and maybe a new spin on the good old Halo gameplay. Even though 343 Industries are made up of ex-Bungie members and true Halo fans, I still will be nervous to see what they do with their first proper game in Halo 4 (technically Halo Anniversary is not their first game, its just the old game with the same gameplay & graphics). Please dont screw up!

I have a feeling Halo 4 will be the start of something new for the Halo franchise. No more Covenant, and maybe a chance of learning more about the Forerunners; I hope they use this opportunity to create something very inventive. I love Halo and it's lore, and each game has had something new. People that say Halo is being milked might as well say that for every franchise. Halo can keep going thanks to it's vast universe. And unlike Call Of Duty, and I really don't want to add to the flamewar between the two series, but Halo hasn't bored me. I was hugely disappointed with Modern Warfare 2 and because of that, I stopped buying Call Of Duty games. With Halo on the other hand, a new game always excites me. I can't wait for Halo 4.

Dexx, I was gonna ask why but then I saw your stupid ass avatar. There are 4 main Halo games, 1 RTS spin off, and a game add on. Comparing it to CoD is disgusting. CoD comes out with a main game every year and that game would only be in development for a year and a half. Halo 4 comes out in 2012 and has already been in developement for 2 years.

I'm also getting a little tired of the Halo franchise. Still, rest assured I will be buying it and trying it out when it comes out. People gotta remember, 343 industries is getting their first try and it may breathe new life into this franchise.

@ CaptainAmerica 100% agreed. Comparing halo with a game that is just a yearly expansion is dumb.

^yup, as long as the games are good why should they stop making them? Halo 1,2,3 were all really good games. Halo Wars was good for a console RTS. ODST was just a Halo 3 add on that Microsoft decided to charge people 60 bucks for. Reach was epic IMO. All these games are good, whether you like them or not you can't deny that they get high scores, sell millions, and have a huge fanbase.

@ neph

actually, CoD isn't that great a game. Battlefield 2 blows it out of the water.

CoD is the same game every year, just different guns. Battlefield 3 will revolutionize all shooters.

well CoD fans consider tray-ark's games side games, so i don't know about that.
i know the main game side game stuff but a game is a game is a game to me.
and what are you trying to say uncharted is one of the best game this gen.

There's legitimate reasons to not like COD anymore. Dropped it ever since Bad Company 2.

Odd. Had never played a CoD until Bad Company 2. Been having an absolutely blast shanking people.
